There is a prequel coming out this year if nothing else.
To end up with a film that doesn't suck?
Some movies have a great premise but fail to deliver. A remake gives another film maker a chance to put right what once went wrong.

The 2 part miniseries and the children of dune mini that followed, both were rather good also.
One aspect of both film and miniseries I disliked was they under played the Duncan Idaho character in every incarnation. He who becomes arguably the most important character of the entire series and he is dead in a scene twice. Not the great warrior standing firm slicing down enemy until 19 lay at his feet before he fell, it was a missed opportunity.
There are some visual aspects of the original movie that are truely outstanding, CGI withstanding.

This is a good point, and could be applied to episodes 1,2 and 3, but short of someone posessing lucas, it is rather unlikely.
We almost need a 'bad films that should have been good' thread.

Fair enough, I've got to confess I didn't know that the first two even had versions previous to those ones. I think the point about very few remakes being an improvement on or even an equal of the originals stands though.
Good shout with The Fly and The Thing - you are right remakes were much better than the originals.

I have always thought that Scarface was one of the most overrated movies in history.
Was thinking about this very subject only a few days ago, and i came up with the following...

it was a couple of years ago with Tom Cruise
I think he means a 'Proper' version set in the 1890's and sticking to the story and not melding two or more carachters into one!!.. Actually making H.G Well's vision rather than a Tom Cruise Action Sci-Fi flick!!

The Dambusters, Sink! The Bismarck, absolutely loads of old school WWII movies for me could do with a good reboot, as long as we don't get Hollywood ******* all over history like they usually do. WWII! NEVER FORGET!

you cannot remake the Indiana Jones films.... dont even think such blasphemy!
they were all on bbc hd few weeks ago which upscaled them somewhatThey still look awesome imo.
You wouldn't even be able to make The Last Crusade any better its a brilliant movie.
I hear there remaking the bodyguard movie, cant understand why.
I personally would like to see a Hackers remake, I used to love that movie.
