Dragon Age 2 - * Official *

so whats backstabbing then? (an attack damage based on position.)

How is backstabbing relevant? You were going on about how you couldn't seem to dodge attacks no matter how far you got, i thought it was plainly obvious i was referring to that.

Usually the Ogre charges you though? Did you just dodge? I suspect your grievances over how easy you found it, can easily be alleviated by increasing the difficulty level? Or is that a bit too low-tech a solution for you?

What a nice thought, please inform me how to increase the difficulty on the demo. And no i didn't need to 'dodge'. All its attacks were directed at my position when it started the animation. All i had to keep was not stop moving and it would plough pitifully through the darkspawn chasing me.

The game might be worth considering when its on sale if it had an isometric view but instead they opted for pure 3rd person and it fails miserably. You can't do anything strategic with that even if you tried.

So I have Hayder's Razor DLC as well due to finishing the demo. That is about ten I have to download before I even have the game :P

I was wondering about that earlier. I've got the signature edition on pre-order, and I reckon that most of this content must already be on the disk and the codes just unlock it. Otherwise their servers are going to be hammered on release day. That happened with the DA:O launch, but just for activations I think.

I have that too so as per another post of mine:

Who else got the signature edition whilst it was still available?

There seems to be so much bumpf thrown in with it:

# Premium Packaging (silver foil will be used)
# Coupon code to get the Day 1 DLC for free
# Download Code for the Soundtrack
# Exclusive in Game Items: Might of Sten (2 Handed Sword), Apostate’s Courage (Staff), Adder of Antiva (Bow), Seeker’s Bulwark (Shield)

The Day 1 DLC is for The Exiled Prince

Then there is all the standard DLC thrown in as well:
* Mabari War Hound
* Mirror of Transformation
* Lion of Orlais Sheild
* Fadeshear Sword
* Magic and Crafting Stores

Then because I read the Penny Arcade comic and signed up for newsletter I get the Staff of Parthalan and Hindsight. If I then play the demo or the Facebook game I get a bucket load more.

Quite pathetic really.

And then I get Hayder's Razor as well. If One million people download and play the demo we also get:

THE FAR CLIFFS OF KIRKWALL
LOTHERING'S LAMENT

I thought the combat was very similar. Right click once, your character keeps attacking. The only difference is when you use powers, you actually "feel" the damage they do.

Darksiders, DMC, GoW all are hack and slash, this isn't.

well you mentioned

attacks were based on whether or not you landed the hit based on attack/defence and had no bearing on your position.

Backstabbing is att damage based on your position. Yes or no?

unfortunately i have bad news Evilsod.......:(

Its funny that when EA completely wrecked the Command and Conquer games and gradually made them worse and worse, everyone was mad over their favorite strategy game series becoming stupidified by EA.

But when they take an RPG developer like Bioware and begin to turn their games into linear over the shoulder hack n slashes to make them functional on an X Box with a gamepad, thats all well and fine because most people like linear simplified over the shoulder view hack n slash RPGs witout a free explorable open world instead of a tactical and difficult combat based RPG with a huge world to explore.

Yay for the complete destruction of one of the PC's finest gaming genres.

Hack and slash seems to be better combat than what DA2 offers, right click and fall asleep, occasional faceroll on keyboard to use skills.

At least with The Witcher 2 I may have to click the mouse a bit.

yep this is the point some people fail to realize. The truly amazing thing is when you add more stat rpgey points in the sword skills and such...you get new extra attack animations. But its still a mindless hack n slash ofc with no thought or skill. ;)

Finally got the demo downloaded after a few hitches.

Absolutely love the changes they've made, except the way they've ripped the dialogue wheel out of Mass Effect.

Don't quite understand the people who are saying the game's linear. This is only a prologue, and the first few hours of DA:O was linear like this before it opened up.

Difficulty was a tad easy, but then again so was DA:O on normal mode.

Definately purchasing this on the 11th.

The demo jumped about a fair bit too, one minute your level 1, next you've got all sorts of spells. It's clearly there to show you what you WILL be able to do. Not entirely sure if they did themselves any favours by giving you all the abilities though, lets face it we were up agains some very limited melee/ranged mobs, nothing special. Yet everyone is shouting about how easy it was- it's a demo folks, it's not meant to be hard!

Shogun demo isnt hard, but it clearly demonstrates the vast depth and range of battle tactics and strategy required to play the game.

DA2 demo? Oh lookie, Hurlocks, die you! *Mouse click, dead*.

Oh noes, more hurlocks, die again foul creatures! *Mouse click, dead.

OMG Its another WAVE! *Mouse click, dead.

More hurlocks? Oh lolz, all I have to do is click the mouse once and your dead.

What awesome gameplay, it really fully demonstrates what the whole game will be like.

You do realise you've just described the first Dragon Age game on normal mode too right?

No not really. The original DAO on normal was a lot harder, at least on the PC where friendly fire was enabled on normal difficulty too.

A mob of 20 hurlocks would have been far far tougher on normal in DAO then they are in this demo.

All of my playthrough videos were done on normal, I played the game twice on normal and it was still challenging and had me interested right from the start. DA2 doesnt do that.
