im trying to protect chests but it doesnt seem to be working. the first chest i did worked fine, but nothing works now. I'm typing in [private] on the sign as instructed but when i hit return it gives me a [?] and the above message.

Apparently others are having issues with the sign bug

The new launcher is as already mentioned the cause of login issues, for those who wish to stay on the old version so you can play on the server; download this:

http://www.darktech.co.uk/MC-Login-Fix.zip

This comprises the old launcher and the version file from the new beta so it won't autoupdate without asking, I've tested this and it works first time every time. The version file goes in .minecraft\bin

Thats what you type on the sign. Can also place a blank sign next to a chest and it should attach to it.

Tried the launcher in that thread however when I run it it just won't open. :/

You don't type the username.

All you type is [Private]

Tom, use the one I posted above, it is a copy of the earlier launcher I still had on another system. Note: it is the windows version.

It works fine and is totally legit.

Avira doesn't like it for some reason, apparently. It's the only AV that reacts to it.
