Youtube block users unless they link with google account

I can't log in to my YouTube account to link it with my google account because my YouTube account matches a google account which doesn't exist any more, and it thinks I'm trying to log in to that, which fails.

Hey google; got an opening for a test manager?

It was about 10 seconds of annoyance for me, what's the problem exactly once you've linked?

Some people are displeased about Google gathering information on every video they watch on Youtube forever, with no restrictions on what they use that data for, and the ever-increasing breadth of the data Google hold on people and cross-reference.

There is a genuine privacy issue. It's not just paranoia.

I don't really want to link my Yahoo email account with Youtube. My email is none of their business.

It lets me sign in anyway

TBH if you don't have a GMAIL account by now, your doing the internet wrong.

Other email providers are rubbish and GMAIL gives me loads of space which is impossible to fill which other providers don't.

I don't mind the 2 places being intergrated, Google owns YouTube so it makes sense - saves me remembering two logins.

lolwut?

I only signed up for the gmail because I had to, I don't actually use it.

youtube account is a gmail account or at least i've always logged in with my gmail account and the other way round. I just assumed this was normal.

They aren't asking you to link to your Yahoo mail, they are just consolidating YouTube/Google accounts which makes complete sense as Google own YouTube now.

It'll accept Yahoo addresses too if you want to link one.

I just wish google would hurry up and acquire a lot more services online, and then steam can pick up everything gaming-related and my online life will become a whole lot simpler.
