***The Official Gran Turismo 5 Thread***

Looking forward to seeing that if you can upload it Radiosity.

Feel pretty bad that I can't return this FGT now, guess I'll just have to gift him back a few cars that he wants.

edit: oh nice, just checking the replay options in case you could share online, which apparently you can't... but it seems you CAN export the save data from the replay for others to use :) Doing so now, hopefully I can then put it on a usb stick and upload it for anyone bored enough to be interested in watching me roll an X2010 16 times lol

But it's exported as replay data, not video. Can't even get it into the playstation's video editor thingy.
What a glaring emission. I did think they might have done it deliberately to prevent a flood of shoddy videos of their game flooding youtube, much in the same way they restrict how close you can get to standard cars in photo mode, but now seriously shoddy tc videos of their game are flooding youtube.

edit: oh and I seem to remember hearing something about cloud saves, which when they get it sorted should eliminate cloning, so then they can re-enable > 1m gifts.

You can copy the data to your own PS3 and view the replay in-game, it's exported to a separate save file to your main save so it won't mess it up or anything :) I'd prefer it in video mode certainly but at least it IS possible to share a replay in some fashion.

Also, cloud saves are a Playstation+ only feature for now so they won't eliminate duping any time soon using that, until and unless they make it a standard feature for everyone to use (not that I would, cloud computing sucks, I want my save files local).

edit: Just finished uploading, 40MB or so rar file, get it Here. It's a big track but the crash happened at about 1:10 into the first lap so you won't need to sit through much to get to it.

cloud computing doesn't suck if proper backup procedures are followed (read: don't do a flickr).
It would eliminate the cloning problem, I see no harm in it aside from the logistics of storing all that data at a low cost while maintaining integrity but if google can do gmail, PD can do cloud saves for GT (it could be a PD thing separate from PS+)
They could fund it with in-game advertising, they already have hoardings all over every track and it wouldn't bother me, advertising is a part of racing.

Actually, why doesn't some clever car maker pay PD to put their latest model into GT5?
I've got 400 cars already and that's the majority of the expensive ones, I need moar.

I really don't see why they would remove a feature from the game. It's not like it really affected anyone else's experience, the only annoying thing was the people who didn't earn their X1s and drove them like idiots online, but that was easy to fix by setting the HP limit to like 1300 odd, not to mention most people already have them now.

Gets on my nerves that they make a patch to take out features, why not spend that time doing things like a new round of seasonals, new online dealership list, removing the 20m credit cap?

Stupid PD

Gets on your nerves? How do you think I feel, considering I didn't clone cars and actually like to gift cars to n00bs to help them get started?

How do you think people who lent out cars without cloning them feel?

I just loaded GT5, installed the update and went into my drivers list, none of them were shared, the last load of XP they got has gone, all back to how they were 24 hours ago.

Great :(

I have cloned precisely one car, the F2007. Because seriously, a car that can't be used in any events and costs that much isn't something I feel inclined to spend money on, and as it turns out the F1 seasonal challenges weren't really worth the effort anyway.

Every other car I own has either been earned (FGT I bought TWICE heh) or gifted from various peeps. So yeah, after saving up 5.5million for my first FGT I'm more than a little miffed at losing it because of PD doing something like this without any warning. I'd already bought the second one before the update anyway since I got bored of waiting to get the first one back but still.

I respect people who got all their cars legit, but I just wanted to get all the cars I like, so I duped/traded, like I said, doesn't really affect anyone else.

Been trying to use other peoples B spec drivers, but when I select them, (like I do when borrowing cars) there is not borrow option?

Lets be honest once you start charging money then any self respecting developer is gonna crack down on it - youve only got yourself to blame, so when you say 'Stupid PD' it must stick in your throat. I just dont get what sense of achievement anyone will get using such exploits  and then blame the developer when they close it - as I said, it was good while it lasted...

ak22 - You don't borrow drivers the same way as cars. Go to the community tab and over to the headphones icon down the bottom to start a remote race. Pick the race you want (there's a pitiful selection of races but eh, better than nothing I suppose) then you pick drivers to race from anyone in your friends list who has drivers shared. Their names will be highlighted if they have, people who haven't will be darkened. And you can only pick a single one of your own drivers for some weird reason.

edit: ps3ud0 - while I agree for the most part, a large amount of blame also lays firmly with PD for creating a game where gaining money/cars is this tedious. GT4 had the right idea with prize cars you could win more than once and sell, decent payouts for endurance races and so on. It's not really surprising people are finding every way they can to abuse the system when it's this mindnumbingly boring to progress beyond a certain point (when you hit A-Spec 25-30 or so and have to start grinding). The only thing that kept me interested was the decent rewards for the seasonals tbh.

No I agree, Im just not interested in bothering with exploits, or the need to resort to them - I just play something else and wait until PD to (repeatedly) fix it, like I said before a few times. Its not like GT5 is a game you can complete quickly (as in collecting all the cars/all the ones you want) so its no skin off my nose if it takes a while, Id rather keep enjoying it than making it a chore...

Though its not surprising people to use shortcuts, on the other hand its not surprising that PD are closing them too - it was just a matter of time.

Completely agree. All I have now in A-spec is the Endurance events, and I literally don't have the time to do them, never mind motivation. And I have never encountered a game mode as pointless as B-spec- it just feels like a chore to even load it up- I'll often decide to whack it on when I'm off to cook dinner, or there's something on tv and I'll run a race while watching something else- this is not how a game should be.

i'm A-spec 31and haven't needed to grind a single race and i've only just started the 4th set of events in A spec expert class iirc.

i've golded all the seasonals to date, still have 4 licenses to take and still have golds to get on the special events. i'm nowhere near the point of grinding.

Great :(

I had the same issue, I've started to manually save the game before switching off in case it's down to the game not saving quick enough during autosaves (as the hdd light still continues to flash a bit even after 'saving ...' when done automatically).

Yep, same here. I stopped playing for over a month (unfortunately missed a couple of seasonals too) and it was reasonably fun again when I came back to it. I'm getting to the point where I don't feel like playing again now though and I've got Disgaea 4 coming sometime early next week from Japan anyway so that'll keep me happily amused for a good while until I feel like playing GT again :)

Not sure where this came from, your post just quoted my post and nothing else when I read it :o Anyway, that's fine if you can do it but some of the special events are just so annoying I can't even be bothered with them, so that's xp I'm denied, and as I just said I missed some of the seasonals so that's a fairly huge amount of xp I have also missed out on. I'm currently level 30 and am having to grind to get anywhere now (not that I AM grinding, I just mean I'd have to if I wanted to level up more) because I'm just not interested in sitting here and doing endurance races on the same track for hours. Honestly the entire leveling system is stupid and pointless imo, this is a racing game, not an rpg.

Thank you Radiosity this menu layout is awful. I though I would be able to control my friends drivers like on single player B-Spec mode.

33 (:p)
To be honest they could do with upping the exp/cash. Got a few ai tests to gold and the S-license is just too much like hard work, if it's anything like the other "over take every car" license tests it's more hit and miss than skill. For me driving skill is as much knowing how to setup a car as wrestling a pig round a track and in license tests you've got no setup options. Same goes for some of the specials, haven't bothered with AMG, by and large I don't like Mercs, when they're not understeering they're oversteering.
The best thing they could do for me would be to up the exp and cr for online races as those tend to be far fairer and tougher than aspec.

I have had to b-spec grind but that's not that hard and I've hit 40 b-spec so it's just about cash now and even that's not as pressing as it was as I've got most of the expensive cars.
