iPad 2 - The rumours so far...

Certainly don't buy now if you're buying new IMO. The price is very likely to remain the same for the 2nd gen, it's quite unlike Apple to charge (noticeably) more for product updates.

i cant see them releasing before the start of april! :(
Announcement will be March 2nd, stock permitting I would expect them to be shipping that same week. My cash is waiting :D

i wouldnt expect them to go on sale untill the start of april! :(

I'm buying one for my dad (birthday is on March 1st) tomorrow, I know the iPad2 will be better but it will be a 3G>3GS type move at best I'd imagine and I highly doubt he will care about any of the new features :p

I'll wait before I get myself one though and see how it looks!

I doubt it... unless Apple can't ship the new A5 in time, then we'll see a shift to a November iPad schedule later this year with the iPad 3? (as per the rumours)

The new cortex A9 SoCs just blow the old A8s out the water without sacrificing battery life  (and Apples fast14 modded/dual SGX543 version will be one of the very best)

Quote from Anand, who likes his Apples :)
Simply put: the Xoom puts the iPad to shame. The combination of an ultra fast javascript engine with a pair of 1GHz Cortex A9s makes the Xoom feel less like a tablet and more like a PC when browsing the web. Particularly over WiFi the web browsing experience is just awesome.

This conclusion is obviously unfair to Apple given the rumored impending release of the iPad 2, but if I had to buy a tablet today it’d probably be the Xoom.

If I wasn’t insane however, I’d wait to see what was being announced on March 2nd first.

The new iPad (2 or 3) packing Apple's dual core A9, with inevitable software revisions, will be a completely different ball game to the 1st gen iPad.

You heard it here first:

A9 cortex (dual core) CPU
SGX543 (dual core) GPU
Front and rear facetime cameras
Upgraded speaker
Improved screen (perhaps not resolution wise)
No SD-card support
Lighter case with change in design (potentially carbon fibre / away from aluminium)
Similar battery life
No additional ports

Not really, all been reported elsewhere, most noteably engadget. If it's carbon fibre Ill definitely buy one, however I would expect this would be ridiculously more complex and expensive to implement over alu or plastic.

EDIT: Having said that... really got me thinking, would love a carbon fibre iphone 5.... :o

If the iPad 2 had flash support that would simply be awsome and I'd love to see what the android, webos people would complain about then regarding the ipad!

I can't, however, see them doing that :( I'm thinking of getting one dependant on the webcam as I live in NZ now and family back in the UK dont always boot up the laptop for skype, so would be nice for the parents to be able to simply pick up the ipad for a video call without having to boot the laptop up and find the webcam (they have an old pre-webcam in the lid laptop!).

Was going to just buy them an ipod touch for facetime for keeping in touch, but waiting to see how much the ipad 2 will cost, feature, etc. If it had flash support I'd buy one for myself too in an instant. I had the ipad 1 for a while but sold it on as I found the lack of flash player support infuriating when I needed to watch embedded videos as I was doing some MS exams at the time. I kept having to reach for hte laptop to view certain websites or use skype for video calls so really didnt see the point in keeping it. At least the video call thing will be sorted with version 2.

If there is no improvement in screen resolution, I'll look at buying an iPad 1.
I've really no need for a camera.

I wonder what a basic iPad will come down to? at the moment they are going for around £350 second hand, so something around £270 would be nice.

Yup, apple are sticking to their no-flash stance for all sorts of spurious reasons, and to hell with the customers, as usual (that's you and me).
Wasn't the deciding situation that Adobe wouldn't or couldn't deliver a decent Flash build for evaluation even though Apple asked to see one?

Of course there's some spin, but I don't think it's a completely one sided issue.

Though it's quite strange that Apple usually end up providing a superior user experience to Google.

The user experiences are very different though, but for the most part I agree.

I dont honestly think Apple NEED to bother with Flash, most flash elements of websites are adverts anyway and everything else is supported by far superior software, such as flash elements of sites working within apps, etc.

They don't need to bother with Flash, based on sales of their products. That's not the debate at the moment. I'm saying that many, many sites currently use flash. That's the here and now, and I can't access them with my iphone.

I just wish that apple would stop steering the arrogant, monomaniacal path that gave us all reason to curse microsoft for decades.
