OcUK Minecraft Server - Rules & Chat

Could just make a town at the spawn, have a few buildings that are community builds, a vault, a rail system as two examples, then just keep expanding with public plots :)

Then Tefal can walk half way round the world and start something :)

I'll also be installing BorderGuard to avoid that kind of thing happening again. It will be simple enough to periodically extend the world borders and obviously I won't make the restrictions too crazy in terms of world size.
 
Thats a fair point but you cant have people spending 8 hours + trying to fix errors for it then to still error.

I spent 6 weeks on one build, three of us have lost every single block we made since day one, 100+ diamonds, 50+ of the new rare block, I cant expect another 8 hours to be spent trying to bring everything ive ever made back.

I dont want this to be taken the wrong way but im going to say it anyway. I understand its incredibly frustrating but there seems to be little that can be done about it. constantly reminding people what you've lost wont change anything and tbh ive lost more than you have via the previous world resets. My villa and fort on s2 and all the worki put in at spawn. my uss voyager on the new world after s1 and s2 where shut down, plus the hours and hours i spent landscaping that spawn area, laying down paths, creating the underground walkways. weeks, no months of work.

but you know, it happens. it doesnt help that we are using unstable beta software with unstable plugins. I do think people would be a lot easier with it if we hadn't of paid for it, however, but we paid our monies and took our chances.

We still have the backup before going to 1.3 (from tuesday) so all those months of work is still saved should anyone want the backup to browse through. I have stacks of iron and other goodies that I would lose, but I'm still up for a reset.

The trouble is, the map is TOO BIG. people are all over the place, not to mention those at 10k and 35k blocks away, it just puts UNNECESSARY load on the server, and causes problems like lag and the corrupted/broken world we have today.

It's not fair to ask people to waste hours of their time trying to repair the map just so we can keep buildings that are weeks/months old. Especially when it means we have more downtime than uptime. I'd rather play the game whenever I want with stone tools, than wonder when I might be able to play using my diamond tools.

My suggestion is map reset, setup a boundary so people cant walk for miles and play single player, remove the nether mod, remove the dynamic map.

edit: and yes, no ANAL rules about spawn, it was set up as a bloody art gallery, one in which people were forced to move away from and became a half finished ghost town as a result. it should be a free for all like server 2 was.

I don't think the nether mod is problematic (at least once I changed the ghast spawns) but the dynmap I agree on - it seems to cause quite a lot of server load and is quite demanding on resources.

Actually they can try and fix it, Sylvet has already said he was going to be having ago today, my point is more what is the point, the chuck has been replaced and the current map is already crashing and generating tons of errors. it gets to the point when enough is enough trying to fix and patch things up.
 
Reset, get everyone together to landscape and work on a central town, build a railway under ground in N,E,S,W and take that all the way to the edge of the map so that you can travel quickly.

Chuck up a big town hall, with the rules and help for new players. Chuck up a vault system and make sure there is plenty of room for expansion.

Chuck up an inn where people can just come and chill and then chuck up a shop where you can trade items.

Chuck up a big community spawner and farms not too far away along the rail as well :)

Spawn needs to be a simple safe zone for players to spawn at, dont need vaults, chest protection works fine, let the towns pop up as they have on the server recently, Yaz and miller made two very good looking areas.

If you get everyone together your have exactly the same as last time a massive space, hardly used.

People were all anal about building around spawn for ages, as soon as they moved away random buildings started appearing and nobody cared.
Obviously a small and safe area to spawn would be good but I don't think a huge area is needed again.


PS. I'm also up for a new map.

it was the design of spawn that led to its desertion. confusing and full of useless empty buildings.

i dont really know how i feel about the teleporting and public homes anymore. they make the rail useless yet imo the rail should be one of the most important features on the server. im kind of split on this atm.

Regarding my town, you have to be kidding right? the layout is terrible. it started with my little house in the middle of nowhere and then me helping yaz with aq plot next to it. then it very quickly expanded. The town is great but no thought was given to the layout, much like the current spawn. I know that vince planned the spawn but he didnt plan it, he didnt imaging what it would be like to walk around it and find things. its a confusing mess much like my town. what makes my town pretty good (imo) is the attention to detail of everything but yes...not the layout.

Aye, and just to make it quick and simple, make the town centre a big square with each building on a corner, walls up then have four exits and let people publicly build a bit outside the walls :) keep people close but not too close.

The rail way should go a long way so that it easy if people do want to be a bit away they can be but it's not impossible for them to hop back to town :)
 
Then I say lets those that want a spawn design and make it, I have no interest in it, so should not comment on it, I wont use it, the only reason I did on the last server was to go to the vault.

I'm on my Macbook atm :p but I'll happily chuck up a design later tonight after I've finished work (About 11pm) can get a few people together and tweak a few designs and then restart and get everyone in on it :)

I think there should be a vault building, but just have rows of chests, maybe 3 chests high and have it more like a massive long library if that makes sense.

My temptation would be to restart asap if we're going to. I'd quite like to get it out of the way and next week I will be extremely busy with freelance work so I might be a bit slower at getting things sorted.
