The *Official* Eve Online Thread

That's not a few questions, it's only a couple but the answers are good and yes respectively. :)
Meh, 2 is few :P

Might get it downloaded tonight and get a trial going and start training up some skills. Missioning still the best way for newbs to make monies?

I been playing for a month & a week, now I have a Sigil, all low slots have a expanded cargohold 2 (around 10,000 cargo space now) gonna do a minning trip today & see how much I make. Ya, I surf while mining, but the $$ seems alright.

It's certainly one of the most obvious ways and level 4 missions pay a decent amount of isk for a minimum amount of effort.

If you're interested in joining the ocuk corp then join the ocuk chat channel in game and ask in there. It's newb friendly and can lead you into other stuff once you're established.

Don't be put off if no one is chatting in there though as people are generally always watching that channel and someone will always take the time to help with questions you might have.

Got an email for a free 5 day comeback but cannot log into either of my old accounts. Sent a petition and had no response all day :/. Hope they don't remove accounts it was only 7 months ago I reactivated for a month.

Downloading it now, will have to start over as I gave my old account away some years ago. Probably won't be too active for a few weeks while I get some training in but I really want to get back into it again.

Does the OCUK Corp have a carebear holdings? I have never really done any low sec pvping in a big alliance. Only been in an alliance there once and I just went rough ratting and mining in belts in my fail ships because I had no skill points. Got quite high skills now though althought I haven't played for more than a month in like 2 - 3 years I came back last year for a few months but played very on and off but got a tengu and most of the module skills to level 5.

Hi , can someone tell me if i start a trial account and then confirm it with the comissioned officer cdkey , will i then have 44 days gametime.
.

Just had a reply from an eve ticket , you can start a new trial account then add the commissioned officer cd key and still have the extras for 30 days + 14 days extra without them , although from what I have heard you actually get 35 days use of the implants.

FUUUUU, damn Eve an their "come back for X days and see how awesome the game is now!". Havnt played since summer be interesting to see the new stuff.

i fail at this game.

i've tried so hard to get into it but i just can't :(

theres no way to make a decent amount of cash mining is boring and so is pve click lock fire yawn

pvp is so unbalanced and as a char with only 4.5m sp people just beast me

pile of ****

Don't be so negative Neil. Whilst you have a low SP there are still ships you can fly well at that level, at around 5m you should be able to fly a good all round frigate or probably an acceptable battlecruiser (Drake in particular) Pick the right fights and you should be able to get kills.
If worst comes to worst - play with friends and win on numbers ;)

SP isn't everything. Say for example you used your first 5m sp purely into flying a frigate as best you can - put this side by side to my ~20m SP character who can fly all race cruisers, T2+T3 cruisers for 2 races and Battleships for 2 races. Add in 2 T2 level weapon systems and drone skills and you will see my SP is spread over a pretty wide area - chances are the majority of people you come up against with a lot more SP than you will just have a wider range of skills rather than a higher level of specialisation. As soon as you take into account getting the upper hand with the right ship (paper > rock etc) and a bit of skill you've got an even playing field.

There are as many ways to make cash in Eve as there is in real life. Can do "for the greater good" things like mining, or dirty underhand pirating or even scamming. :p

SP does not equate to ability, if you think it does then you havn't played enough.

Solo PVP is very difficult in most places due to the blob, unfortunately, not much you can do there except decline fights and try elsewhere.

If you're not in a good friendly corp with active players then this is definitely where you're being held back in terms of enjoyment, learning and support.

I have over 100m SP and I am rubbish at PvP not because I don't have SP in the right areas but because I end up in the wrong fights. My PvP alt is almost as bad, if you want to get good at PvP practice makes perfect not skills.

Yeah eve is the only mmo i can think that rewards players with a tactical/strategic mind and quick reactions for micro managing your own ship and fleet.

As simple as point lock and F1 F2 etc seems, there is a level of play here where setting your ideal orbit range and speed, overheating your guns for a few seconds, beginning boost/repper cycle, triggering your cap booster, stopping cap booster, deagressing for the gate jump and session timers may actually get you a few kills here and there and come out with a battered yet with a ship nevertheless.

There are lots of factors that come into play that you might not know of, like increasing transversal to make yourself harder to hit or take less damage, and increasing speed so that missiles do next to nothing, staying out of web range and knowing what ships are and how they are likely to engage you.

All of these above skills mentioned no sp exists for you to get good at like leveling up in wow does, this all boils down to real experience and your judgement on the situation to be able to pilot your ship and either commit for a sure kill or disengage if it looks like a losing battle.

This is why a lot of solo pvpers will use small ships from frig hulls to cruiser sized hulls. But before you get to that stage i urge you to join a corp that will teach you to look at situations, work as a team and make use of what you are sat in and basically learning more about the game and different play styles.

Trading btw can be a major isk making excersies, as can salvaging things ppl don't want (ask first). As mentioned before stealing and scamming can make you money quick should you choose to go that route. There's even racing and player run events and competitions you can win isk on if you know where to look.
