iPad2 opinions?

The new iOS update will beef up Safari too anyway, its apparently a pretty large speed increase so it might be a lot better just from that, you never know!

iOS 4 didn't come out when iPhone 3Gs was released though.

Not enough of an upgrade to make me consider it. Going to pick up a refurbished iPad from Apple for £277 (after cashback) and then wait for iPad 3.

Yeah iOS 4 came out with the iPhone 4. My 3GS has zero problems whatsoever with it, and it does about 90% of the iOS 4 stuff. I would suspect my 3GS will start to drag when 5 comes out, but this is a non-issue since my contract finishes in June and thus I can get my mitts on the iPhone 5.

I'm not impressed with the smart covers. Doesn't protect most of the device!

It is smart, but its not practical.
For example, my daily leather bag that I take to work, it has a internal zip pocket. I can throw in my iPad with the Apple cover in it without worrying about it getting scratch. I can't do that with the new one. The zip will turn the back into some skateboard art in 1 trip to work.
Probably end up getting a 3rd Party case and not use the Apple case. Unless they make a 3rd party case that integrate with the Smart cover properly.

Well, according to apple, because the rear is aluminium, it is "durable", and they want you to feel it, so dropped the whole idea of protecting the back.
A bit like the Bumper doesn't protect the glass in the iPhone 4 because they think the glass feature is there to be shown off. It's a lot of design over function or real world usage.
I mean if you don't care about dents and scratches then fine.

Not really. It's an iPhone without the phone in a different form factor. It doesn't really do anything different or extra.
I think it makes many things a joy to do when compared to doing them on the iPhone which is a bit more hassle due to its size.

I am sure you can. But they only protect from scratches. Not from drops, and my case have saved my iPad from getting dents a few times. Either the Apple or Dodocase took all the impact. Plus, I am not worried about handing over my iPad when its in the case, especially the Apple one. I often pass it to guests to play with during weddings, or the bestman to look at the formals list to call out the relevant people, or the little bridemaids to play Angry Birds on in the morning when they are waiting around.
I am not sure I would if its bare...
Each to their own. I use the iPhone 4 more often than the iPad. For anything with a load of typing then the MacBook wins hands down. The iPad's sort of stuck in no-mans land! The TV guide app is quite useful tho.

That's how I see it. I have an iPhone and MBA so I can't justify myself getting one no matter hard I try

Personally other than the slick hardware I don't see anything that makes me want to go out an buy one. On the same side tho I really can't bring myself to buy a Xoom - there's just something about the pricing versus the functionality that doesn't ring true for me so the end result is sitting tight. The device that really stands out for me at the moment is the ASUS Transformer. But time will tell - for now my HTC Desire provides the sofa surfing capability, albeit on a small screen - so I can afford to wait.
In my eyes it seems to be a common story for Apple - produce a product that launches a market and then fail to keep up with the competition, strangle it's OS and then screw it's developers and customers through it's charges and ongoing fees.
Epic hardware, beautiful UI, crazy good marketing - really poo OS and rubbish way of treating both customers and developers... it's not a brilliant combination IMO.

Quick question, the ipad 2, is the screen the same? not the res, but the highly reflective cover? the same as the ipad 1 ?
