Supplements the debate/discussion thread

OK, for post-work out do people recommend any specific supplements?

I am looking to lose some weight, so I am trying to cut carbs and increase protein. I was advised to have a mid morning / mid afternoon shake with smaller 'proper' meals in between.

Also, whats up with Omega 3? If I eat enough tuna would I get enough omega 3 from that or do I need moar!?

you dont need any of that stuff if your doing light weights, save your cash it will be a waste, maybe alpha men might help with general health, but you would be better off eating fruit as most of the stuff from pills gets pee'd out.

Was doing light weights I'm now planning on upping them and growing hence the order :)

Firstly ditch the monohydrate. Oats & Whey and a shaker will be all you need. Really, unless you've done you're reading and can justify why you're going to use C-mono spend the money on oats instead.

Also I'm not a fan of the blender bottles and would recommend the Buchsteiner shaker instead. Others here will disagree.

6/7 months down the line if you want to explore other supplements if you have the desire then do it but initially just start with the basics as it's all you need.

Great thanks ;)

Is MP the best place to buy Fine Scottish Oats still?

been a while since I bought some, but back when I did I was sure I noticed another place like BBW or similar stocking them.

Can anyone point me in the right direction. Thanks

Looking for good joint care, any tips?

Lots of mobility training, Omega 3,6 and 9.
Glucosamine Sulphate aswell if you really want to try it. Some mixed reviews on it.

Although it's been helping with my elbow and tendon problem.

I use all the above, specially the training and eating lots of oily fish.
Nothing really beats good whole food really.

I eat a fair chunk of eggs thanks to having 15 chickens in my garden, I do suppose I could look into more oily foods though as I tend to only have fish once a week. I do take my omega 3 / 6 supps every day.
Its just ive started to notice some slight acheing in my left shoulder when ever I use weights on it, hopefully its just something minimal but if it gets worse its off to the doctors.. :/

What do you guys think is the most effective carbohydrate supplement for cardio training? At present I use dextrose but I'm interested in anything that offers improved performance. I've been reading about Vitargo which sounds great. Any thoughts or input?

Nothing beats dextrose / glucose in liquid form that isn't IV glucose for speed from mouth to bloodstream. I wouldn't spend any real money on it, the cheap basic stuff is where it is at for this. Anything you take has to be converted to simple glucose anyway, the more complex that break down the slower it hits the bloodstream. Being in liquid form just means it covers a bigger area which speeds uptake.

You actually don't want to be supplementing omega 6, we get enough of it in our diets. iirc it's the ratio of omega3: omega6 that you want to be fixing. If you want the details I'll find the article I'm thinking of.

If you have shoulder pain, are you sure it's a joint issue and not muscular? Many very common shoulder problems are due to imbalances and weaknesses in the shoulder which, quite honestly, your doctor probably knows nothing about.

You can use wms or vitargo as it's faster than dextrose, but the cost of vitargo is prohibitive, and wms is meant to thicken up rather stupid.

Personally i stick with dextrose, a good protein blend and some bcaa's, and my main meal within an hour or two afterwards.

Works for me.
