*** The Official HTC Desire (Bravo) Thread! ***

Do you think that future incarnations of Android will be 'pre-rooted'?

I've heard that honeycomb will allow screencapping without root, so ait would seem SuperUser permissions are becomig more 'lax?

No. Root is a very dangerous thing in the wrong hands. Most Android malware first tries to root your phone to allow it to do nasty things. Screen grabbing will just have it's required permission level changed to allow it from non-root/su accounts.

I see, rooting is a hassle* though, perhaps if you had more control over which apps had SU permissions then that would restrict the opertunity for malware to act? I dunno, just seems dumb that you have to gain backdoor access. Ooh err.

*One time, albeit but it can brick your device!

I really don't understand what they gain from preventing screenshotting unless root.

Do you mean from a malware POV?
I they could capture and upload images of passwords etc.. But most of these are starred out, I think the biggest threat would be sensitive information you access like emails etc.

Simple reason why. You download a dodgy app that screen shots your phone every 10 seconds and uploads to the app developers ftp server. Given enough people he will soon have a screen shot of personal details, maybe even credit card details from a web order.

I thought of stuff like that, but they must be able to restrict it to their own processes? Although suppose they'd have to make it available in some way for button presses to be intercepted.

Strange one.

What they will do is make so that when the function of screen grab is called it will notify the user that an application has triggered the screen grab event and you need to accept of deny it I would imagine. Kind of like the way Windows firewall works or how a web browser asks if you want to remember your password for a website. Maybe a countdown timer that auto denies when the countdown is reached could be used?

So yeah, once you see it, it cannot be unseen on the HTC Desire :p

Anyone using cm7. Where is the option to keep the screen live during charge? And as I have a pin on my phone is it possible to turn off the screen lock

I think most people on here would recommend Cyagenmod 7 RC2 at the moment. Nice quick, stable, clean Gingerbread ROM.

Can anyone tell me how I go about un-rooting my Desire?

Tired of Oxygen randomly rebooting at times, and waiting for updates lol.

Think I will try the default firmware for awhile :)

Thanks

Why not try CM7. I've not had any reboots but used to on Oxygen. Stock, roms are so meh, seems like a pointless turn backwards.

I really can't be bothered flashing different ROM's and having to update them so often anymore.

I don't think I use anything that rooting my phone has provided that I can think of tbh.

Wouldn't mind trying Sense again, as I got rid of it when rooting my Desire a few days after having it lol.

Any ideas how to link contacts with their facebook account?

It's done if for some of my contacts but just seems to ignore others. I've checked their names, have their facebook as a webpage etc but still nothing.
