*** I LOVE ENGLAND/UK - MY HOMELAND! ***

And of course, the UK produced this man:

My favourite person. The UK isn't good enough to keep him here, but we still produced him in the first place. :D

The town is Plockton in the Highlands, quite remote.

The beach below it is not far away but across the water on the isle of Skye, it's Calgary beach you get the ferry to the town.

I love Plockton. My mum worked up there for years. Awesome area. Incredible steaks available too!

Nope, was already married to a Brit. Bought a business under which then gave me an E2. Quickly switched over to an employment based visa once I got here, which does lead to perm residency. Unlike an E2. Cutting a very long story short, hopefully towards the end of this yr, I'll have a green card, meaning I'm home free. It's been over 6yrs of not knowing your future and a huge financial gamble that so far is paying off ! If you wanna move out here. Marry an American... Its a lot easier.. ;)

But I never forget my roots. I'm proud to be British. England is one of the best places in the world to live. It's just that my standard of living is so much higher here than would be there. I could never give my kids the same upbringing in the UK as they get here. Family life is more sorted here. By a country mile.

even if i won the euro lotto on friday would it still be hard to move to the usa,(i have no criminal record)

London is nice but it's people aren't. Too many strivers, chavs, unfriendliness all the way....nothing like other places i've been to in terms of social life.

Having said that its a very good place for business and shopping.

I love all of the lovely people shouting out rude words to each other on the street, it really makes me glad to be English. I also love how all the good for nothing little scrotes get fed by taxes, it really warms my heart. I absolutely love the people of this country.

Yes. The whole Island, except you, every single person who makes up the UK is a scrote. The UK has problems. What's your solution? The benefit state has it's flaws but without it we'd be a lot worse off as a nation. I would take it as a great positive that when people fall on hard times they aren't immediately out on the streets. Yes there it's open to abuse, there are probably nations that do it better but then the grass is always greener. Sitting from the comfort of your home, posting on OcUK, I'm sure you're desperately hard done by and that's entirely down to the problems of this country. :)

I'll take England and the UK over any country anyday. The people understand me, the people know me. Sure go to another country, it might be 'nicer' but you'll be lonely, even if you make friends they'll never understand what you really are.

I mean, where do you go? America? Might have nicer weather but the populous is moronic and they have the death penalty still. Canada, yeah, sure, nice summers but winters worse than ours, not to mention the grizzlies yapping at your ankles.Australia is baron and sweltering.

Don't forget we are more or less immune to natural disasters in the UK too apart from the odd Tornado that might rip a few tiles off lmao.

Canadian winters are awesome. Spent last winter in AB, the temps went as low as -40 at times and my face froze........but I don't remember seeing a cloud the whole time, no wind. Every day was beautiful. I really like England, but my the grey, wet, windy days are pretty fudging shifty.

to those who knock how expensive UK is, try Hong Kong first. Yes its lower taxes, but everything other then publc transport and utility bills are either the same or more expensive then in UK. Especially renting costs, after a suicide discount, I am still paying through the roof for what is 3x smaller with thin walls and loud neighbours...

Anyway, if I learnt one thing living here, is that UK is a much, much, much better place to live. Although public transport here does put UK to shame, just the amazingly cheap and reliable bus system.

Long story short, I am counting down weeks until my work visa expires and I can come back.

Why do the yanks think we English all speak the queens english and sit down to tea and scones:eek:

I'd prefer to know why the yanks like to call Britain 'England' and British as 'English'.

When studying history, American authors would frequently claim things as English instead of British, then when it came to Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland it would either be named British or in some major retarded ones as English...

But yeah, the UK is tidy. Got Wind Street in Swansea haven't we! Bouncing night out.

I'm rather indifferent about the UK at the moment. I've been back here five and a half years now after having lived in South Africa for 4 and a half, and I don't think I've ever had the impression that things are improving or getting better. Cost of living has shot through the roof the past few years, and the sharp reductions in public spending will soon start to show its effects. I returned to the UK for university and to pursue the career I want, which has now become extraordinarily difficult due to the budget cuts in policing.

I spent a little over two weeks in Calgary, Canada last September seeing my parents, and it's just so much nicer over there; I was so impressed with the place, that I've got every intention of moving there once I'm in a good position to be able to. Expensive to live there, but at least you feel like you're getting something back for it. The UK is just expensive for no good reason.

But you are earning good money, so can provide that, what's the hospital bills like?

America is a great place to live if you have the wealth, you can live like a millionaire.

Not rich at all. Never have been. Yes you are better off 'financially' in England if you have 'long term' health care issues. That being said. I prefer the quality of care you get here.. But you do have to pay for it but only upto a certain max if you have insurance. My family is like 5k. Healthcare in England is like being handed an old Dell computer. You don't know what your getting.. In the USA, it's like choosing and building all the best components fron OcUK :D You chose what docs you want, & which hosptial you wanna goto. All the ones I've been to, have been top notch.

Still I love coming back to the UK, and if I got a choice of where I wanna spend my two weeks later this yr.. It will probably be England !!!! Yep you heard it right, holiday in SE England..... Still love the place that much. WH Smiths, town center shopping, country lanes, pubs & good humor..Still a great place.
