***** The Crysis 2 Thread *****

Are you referring to a specific review that gave it 6.9? It's currently averaging 88 for the pc version and 87 for the consoles. The lowest single review score I can see is 70 (aside from the user reviews putting the scale to good use and giving the game 0's and 10's).

Referring to user score average. Professional reviews aren't even worth looking at, so that 88 means nothing to me.

I would easily give it an 8.8 score. Few bugs keeping the score down, hopefully patched soon (melee after death bug which only seems to last a minute or so etc). Easily the best fps that I have played that has come out in recent years. Graphics are above anything else coming out now - a few dodgy textures surrounded my masses of gorgeousness, some people just look for things to dislike. The story might be a bit tried and tested but the atmosphere and pacing seem spot on. The weapons have a nice kick and some good diversity. The unlocks and customisation make different playstyles fun in varying situations. Whoever said its just a corridor shooter is either blind or they have only played for about 10 minutes, considering the setting (people would have complained if it was in the jungle again so the setting is welcome) then the areas are very wide, there are multiple ways around a situation and paths to areas. The suit means you can scout around and try different tactics. The setting reminds me of a good call of duty mixed with half life 2 and with a power suit thrown in. All in all its easily a worthy sequal. Fun game, few bugs that put a smudge on it but I havnt come across anything gamebreaking.

On to the muliplayer next. If nothing has changed since the demo then I shall be there for a long time yet (although have seen theres a grenade launcher which could be a bit rubbish for anyone who actually likes playing properly but we shall see).

People expect the world with every big release... 'oh no it doesnt push boundries in every concievable way, it fails. It needs next gen graphics, fully open environs and novel worthy story or its crap'. Its fun, very fun. Yes it could have included this and that and could have come with a free car but it was never going to please everyone, especially the ones who decided they didnt like it long before release based on snap judgements and info fed by trolls.

so better trust random internet trolls instead...

Every game I've played and rated, my rating has been within 1 whole figure of the average user score on metacritic - so generally the 'trolls' are accurate - but if you want to trust the pros who get nice handouts under the table for advertising etc. then be my guest.

Getting really bad FPS in multiplayer. It plays fine at first, but after a few minutes, it drops down to 1-5 fps and i have to leave the game.

Just finished it, overall i'm a bit disappointed both graphically and gameplay wise, on medium I could run past most of the mobs in strength mode and my energy would regen before they could kill me. Pretty average AI compared to the original crysis (at least that I have noticed), it just seems to be the same...

Looking forward to the patch tho, the graphics arent the worst but I have definately seen better, lets hope DX11 makes a decent improvement to the game graphically and hopefully that will make me want to play it again...

16 milliseconds?

Apparently thats the room they have to put in dx11 effects without performance really being effected.

Taken from crymod forum:

ms is milliseconds. Im not entirely sure what it is measuring, but AFAIK everything the engine does is measures in ms, such as enabling HDR could cost like 1ms on console and like 0.3ms on pc or something like that.

So they should have a good chunk to play with for effects,

Hands up if you're expecting the DX11 patch to add a good 15% to the visuals but absolutely destroy performance.

I can see it now, another 54 pages of people whinging only this time it'll be because their rigs canny run Crysis 2. AKA Crysis 1 all over again. :D

Anyway, I was sick of waiting for my preorder to arrive so ended up buying it off Steam tonight. Only played about an hour but I'm enjoying it so far.

Gonna stop reading this thread now until I've finshed the game as there's too many negative nigel's around these parts. Enjoy. :p

It's a good game, despite a few annoying bugs (AI and control input bugs mainly) I would certainly give it over an 8, the 88 on metacritic atm seems fair.

Really been enjoying the multiplayer tonight, the fact you have to always think about how best to use your suit makes it really interesting imo.
However I did encounter 1 aimbot user, it was blatantly obvious watching the killcam as he was just standing in the middle of Pier 17, instantly snapping to and killing targets at varying distances. He had like 10 kills after the first 20 seconds of the match. I just left and joined another server which turned out to be awesome and kept me hooked for hours :D

Played around with that config tool, but found I can't really get it to look any better than the default 'Extreme' setting.
I know it's not necessarily suppose to give higher graphics options but the game just doesn't look right without the default blur effects etc on, and im pretty sure AA is enabled on the extreme setting anyway.

People still complaining about visuals I can't remember any dx11/10 titles recently that look as good as this does in dx9.

Woah there boy, Crytek have not delivered.
This is Crysis 2 b.t.w, not DA2 or DS2.
You carry on defending it, though we all know they could have done a lot better, if they designed and wrote it from the ground up, with running it on a pc in mind.
