Xbox 360 & PS3 vs PC graphics

in my opinion you get what you pay for.

your looking at least double the expense to buy a gaming pc compared to a console. taking into account all the peripherals, monitors and operating systems etc.

for what you get for the money. i think consoles are pretty good value for money.

i used to be a pc fanboy but ive been more than happy with the performance of my consoles recently and due to the lack of pc exclusive titles that i am interested in. i rarely use my rig anymore. prehaps BF3 will change this!

Yeah that's true but once you buy the initial peripherals and a decent processor/motherboard, the only thing you'll need to upgrade is the GPU and depending how into PC gaming you are you won't need to upgrade the GPU for a very long time. Plus it's not like you just use a computer for gaming, you use it for watching films and everything else. Also a decent processor like the Q6600 is around 4 years old now and can still play the latest games without a problem, so if you really stretch out the processor you can maybe get 6 years+ out of it for playing games and you'll only need to upgrade the GPU when needed.

People have said the graphics card is equal to a £40 graphics card nowadays so if you buy a mid entry graphics card for £120 (like a GTX 460), it will last you a damn long time if you play at the same resolution/settings as a PS3/360 version of the game. But obviously you won't play at the same settings when you can play at much higher resolutions. So a £120 graphics card vs a £200 console would be a better comparison in my opinion and lets be honest there's no point comparing that as the PC GPU will destroy the console GPU in everything, especially when a £40 graphics card can produce the same graphical performance as the PS3/360.

I hope that makes sense haha. Although some 360 games look quite good nowadays but that's because they're designed for consoles in the first place, but don't compare to PC graphics.

Yes everything you say is true RE HARDWARE.. But hardware is pointless without well made software.. Which we are no longer seeing from the PC gaming development community. Just quickly made ports from the consoles, so all that good hardware goes to waste. Actaully even worse, since these are ports, they for the most part run even better on the consoles. 5yrs ago it was the other way round. But the tables have turned in the consoles favor.

In a way I think it is advantageous for us PC gamers aswell economically. When crysis first came out, it was unplayable on highest settings on most pcs at that time. That meant many people spent considerable more money upgrading their graphics cards when the next gen came out aswell as some cpus.

Now think about it. If developers started making pc games that utilised only high end hardware like gtx 480 and sandy bridge in order to play those games at highest settings with high consumption of over 1GB VRAM (we all want the highest settings naturally as pc enthusiasts ;)), then that would render my Q6600 and 5850 obsolete in a way if those games struggled to play smoothly with nice eye candy. This would also mean many of us wanting to upgrade again and this will be costly.

As long as game ports play smoothly and nicely on my PC I am happy with it along with 2-3 true PC games thrown in the mix:).

Well that's the problem right there... As long...... Problem is they no longer do. These are some big titles we are talking about here.

Call of Duty Black Ops (worse than console)
F1 2010. (No better)
Need for Speed Pursuit (much worse)

Whereas 2 yrs ago, titles such as SF4, Need For Speed Shift, Grid and Dirt, COD MW2 were all optomised and played better for the PC.. Today, the devs arn't even bothering.

Will it get better or worse? Looking at the pattern of decline, I'd say worse. Making matters worse, these games were pretty much broken at launch and early adopters had to wait days / weeks for patches to make them playable.. Come on what is all that about?? PC gamers these days are crapped on, and if you don't see it, wake up and smell the coffee. Do you think console games are broken at launch?

I have ran black ops side by side with the 360 version and it looks much much better. Also runs better than the 360 version when maxed and using eyefinity still is smoother! f1 2010 is also crisper by far. not played need for speed

How long did you have to wait before those games worked for you? I remember players wanting to man their pitch forks and go down to the publishers to torch the place, that frustrated they were.

I really dont understand what you mean. every pc game i've ever bought worked straight away. If you buy pc games and especially mainstream ones like black ops and f1 and they dont work in your pc straight away then there is something terribly wrong with it. You are just trying so hard to make up stuff in order to justify gaming on an inferior platform (consoles).

Not true. The amount of games I've had that crash or quit back to the Desktop randomly or work perfectly fine one day and refuse to boot up the next for no reason, is the reason why unless a game is PC exclusive only I will always buy it on console, as it works out of the box first and every time.

PEBKAC

I've never had these problems, some people need to stick to consoles because they obviously cannot build and configure a decent PC. Only problem i've had for years is Crysis 2 MP and thats not my PC

Sorry, I don't speak foreign.

Consider yourself lucky. I've been building and upgrading rigs for years, I think I know what I'm doing, there is nothing wrong with my rig thanks. Why the hostility? Oh I mentioned the word "console". Now I see.

yeah so true. cant remember how many times friends were asking me about getting into pc gaming after a visit to my place and all I said to them was "just stick to your consoles".

I dont think its luck to be fair and how is that hostile, I simply said stick to consoles. The obvious choice if you are struggling building a decent gaming PC

I not struggling whatsoever and extremely proud of my PC which I built on a budget and it runs everything I throw at it at the highest level of detail. As I said there is nothing wrong with my PC. The software is the problem as you know everyones PC is different (unlike say a Mac or console hardware) and every game cannot be fundamentally coded to run on so many thousands if not millions of combinations of hardware without some problems every now and then.

Stick to consoles? As if I or anyone else that chooses to own one is not intelligent enough to join the PC community? If that isn't hostile or a major insult I don't know what is.

The problem in here is that there are a lot of smug, snobbish PC owners who have an attitude problem and consider themselves a step above anyone else who doesn't have cutting edge hardware or dares to have a different opinion or choice of gaming platform. Should you even mention anything other than the excepted opinion you are shot down in flames immediantly. "Console" is also a word you must avoid using at all costs unless its in a negative manner as this will result in an even more hostile or juvenile response from the Elite. Gaming has become far too opinionated these past five years or so, its the worst its ever been and at the end of day does it really matter how we all play our games as long as we enjoy them? Most people seem to forget at the end of the day we all have a common interest and instead of bickering about non-sensical things we should be discussing the games we like and the reasons why and other gaming related stuff, not my PC is better than your PC/console/whatever. Its pathetic frankly. Threads like this spring up everyday and are always started by a fanboy of his chosen platform (in this case the PC) just to have a bash at the opposition. I hope this thread is closed asap as it serves no purpose other than to give the Elite somewhere else to bitch about how "consoles are holding back PC gaming" or how "crap console graphics are compared to a PC". How ignorant. Grow up ffs.

I'm real sick of it. I use my PC for gaming with PC exclusives and modded games that look so much better than the standard version (Half-Life 2 Cinematic mod 10, Realifesis etc immediantly spring to mind), and my consoles for everything else. Each have good and bad points, although a fanboy will of course disregard any factual evidence whatsoever and troll anyway showing his ignorance. I'm off now to enjoy gaming on ALL my machines including my PC, this thread has wasted enough of my time. Good day.

I see it as friendly advice, not hostile or an insult.

I dont have cutting edge hardware, where did I list my spec

Its ok for you to voice your opinion but if someone else has a different experiance or opinion you get upset about it! I dont have any problems with my PC and the games I run on it so why do you?
