Brian Cox series on BBC

So he didn't have to work hard for the Phd and departmental chair?

???

100s of people get PHDs and dont make it on TV because they are not physically attractive.. That is my point..

It is my opinion that the entire show is built around the premises that a non geeky looking "normal" man makes the viewers feel at ease and allows them to be interested. A northern rochdale accent is still a novelty when it comes to the BBC too. Its a complete break of the sterotypical, hence its " cutting edge! "
take Countdown as a terribly crude example... if they didnt have the carrol vorderman or that incredible blonde that is there now, and instead some ugly looking woman or man the show wouldn't have the quirkyness that makes it.

How about he studies the Bible and realise God created the world in Six days.

How about he and other scientists continue to add nails to the coffin of the idea that a higher being creating the universe and the laws that govern it, and everyone who has been totally indoctrinated by religion wakes the hell up and takes some pride in human achievement and puts their religious differences aside and starts being nice to one another. Just a thought.

Brian Cox is a bit of a douche, hes got where he is today cos he looks normal and not your stereo typical science ugly geek.

Its his sheer normality (possibly good looking???) that has served him.

I think hes a complete bell end too. He talks like the **** at the party that has smoked one too many Js and is tryign to "freak you out" with how wonderful the universe is man,... omg its full of stars..!

you want cox bad by the sounds of things

seriously though do you have any idea about his background and how he got where he is?

anyway i met him the other day and he said he wasn't interested in you so get over it aint gonna happen

I see your point, but I'd also say that his communication skills are just as important as his TV looks.

yeah agree, its a good combination, although im sure he doesn't write the scripts fully by himself, but delivers them well.

I'm not so sure about that part. They seem scripted, but like I said earlier, from seeing him live, his ability to answer questions in a very similar style makes me think he does write it all.

So why is this a bad thing; why does this make him a douche?

The universe was created by an intelligent being and not once in his series does he aknowledge it.

The scientific theories on the formation of 'the universe' goes down to an atomic level, things that can be mathematically proven, new supporting evidence every day.

Isn't it strange how as yet we've never had an explanation of 'intelligent design' on this level, down to this amount of detail. And I don't mean the countless video 'lectures' on youtube that say no more than the last, and go into no pertinent detail at all.

I would like to hear Magick's 'Wonders of the Universe' :) (Seriously)

I like him, not sure why people think he comes across as a *******. Care to explain that?
I would say it's jealousy of a youngish decent every day bloke with a PHD, ending up on TV, working on the most complicated and expensive experiment ever created and generally doing very well in life, who also had quite a successful but short music career.
What else could anyone possibly hate? It's not like anyone here knows him personally and therefore can only hate his success.

As for myself, I think he's brilliant.

I have a scientific education myself and i guess i find it patronising. I know its aimed at laypeople, its a pathetic reason.

Also im a southener and hate northerners, wippets and cotton mills.

Also im secretly in love with him as outlined above.

:D Actually i think its jsut his haircut. Maybe a little of all.

lol i just read soem posts about jealousy... thats weird to come to that conclusion out of all the possibilities.. as know of us know him other than at face value.
