The new Orange Android phone (San Francisco) £99...but a Question??

but I felt a little underpowered bearing in mind the screen size and the processor speed (600mhz - 800x480 screen). But it was something I was prepared to live with to conserve battery and also have a reasonably sized handset.

You'll be blown away when you see the Blade screen as it actually does have an 800x480 screen.

Same as my legend - albiet the Legend is an AMOLED (or one of them other fancy terms lol) screen and the new ZTE Blades are TFT :( - no loss though I can't expect much for £100!

Just wondering if it slowed down due to the amount of pixels it has to push - i.e. Anyone tried Angry Birds on it? thanks

now to actually find somewhere with them in stock! aaargh

Hey guys, some help appreciated.

Used to have an iphone 3gs - it lasted me one month before I got bored (contract was for 2 years). Keeping the o2 sim, I swapped to a HD2 (too big!), then eventually settled on a HTC Legend, after going through some more top-end models.

The Legend is nice and portable, slick, but I felt a little underpowered bearing in mind the screen size and the processor speed (600mhz - 800x480 screen). But it was something I was prepared to live with to conserve battery and also have a reasonably sized handset.

Nearly at the end of my o2 contract (just been caning it in my legend until now) - but the legend has been used as allsorts by my kids - Teething tool, its had a replaced digitiser and finally the mic stopped working a couple of weeks ago - can't use it as a phone so its a tad useless lol.

Looking at something cheap to get me through until August time - Bearing in mind my points above - would you class it as suitable? £100 is nothing for a smartphone (compared to the £500 I dropped for a HD2!)

I'm not a noob to flashing - having rooted and unbranded my legend on numerous occasions - but I REALLY like the HTC Sense interface - is that available for the SF?

thanks in advance peeps. Really need a working phone first and foremost so definately going to buy one today....

If you're looking to spend £100 on a phone the SF is the best for the money. It's not as well built as the legend but if it's only for a few months then it's not an issue.

I don't think anyone has made a sense port tho.

EDIT: Angry birds runs well on the Modaco 2.2 rom.

Thanks for the link, I see in that thread there's a set of downloads for the Swedish Spring ROM which is good however I can't understand how I install them? Any idea?

Many thanks

You install them the same way you install a rom. Boot into recovery manager, install zip from sd card. Simples :)

I think you missed the point.

http://www.htc.com/www/product/legend/specification.html

The original Blade (which I have, but doesn't help you much) is Oled.

The current blade is an 800*480 3.5" LCD screen. The Legend is 320*480 3.2" AMOLED. The resolution of the Blade blows away the Legend. The screen is why I sold my Hero for a Blade.

dude LOL! - I forgot my Legend was lower res display. I've got and had too many phones to remember what spec they all are. You've made me even happier taking into account I got my hands on a brand spanking ZTE Blade ;) Orange shop even gave me another £20 off when they spotted my ID lol :>

Just got it charged (not bothered switching it on yet) I like the sturdy build, need it with my two little terrors running riot - waiting for the kids to get to bed before I start to hack it. Thanks guys.

Didnt even bother putting my orange sim in it - unlocked in a grand total of like 5 seconds lol.

Looking for the screen type I noted the following:
OUK_P729BV1.0.0B08, you have the TFT Version.
OUK_P729BV1.0.0B05, you have the OLED Version.

I've got a OUK_P729BV1.0.0B10!! - So whats one of them? A hybrid? lol. who cares at this price!

Orange dont half fill it with crap! no wonder everyone is scrambling for custom roms :)
I also note according to the instructions that only Gen 1 versions can be rooted at present - still to check which is mine /praying its gen1!

An excellent specced phone unbeatable for the price - thanks for bringing this phone to my attention guys.

B10 is just what the latest phones are shipping with, it's what mine was and it's TFT.

If you dial *983*24474636# it will tell you, but this no longer works on mine, I assume the ROM I installed doesn't have ChiperTest.apk. It worked when I was on stock Orange iirc and it was def TFT/Lead.

thanks jaymax. Mine is:
IC: NT35580
Glass: LEAD

rooted fine, got as far as recovery install and it just sits there doin nowt - been going for 15mins! :(

EDIT: Sorted - downloaded and installed clockwordmod recovery from marketplace - Installed custom rom and tested ok :)

Got the CM7 RC4 on mine at the moment, so far so good - only been off the charge since 8AM this morning but hasn't dropped any % yet.
the R26 version was battery obsessed. We'll see how this goes, also got the latest LP pro on it and the widgets seem really nice, and it's very smooth.

I'm currently on Swedish Spring ROM but I'm still having issues when installing Spotify... Please could some one suggest me the next best ROM to use as I don't really know what I'm looking for.

Many thanks

Well I received my SF today,

unlocked it and installed Swedish Spring RSL3, only slight issue, I am using my iPhone contract sim in it.

Under the APN settings I selected the O2 MMS PrePay option and I can send and receive MMS messages fine. If I turn on the wifi, it refuses to send the message.

Anyone got any ideas?

Using that also. Its actually quite good except for the speaker volume is a lot lower then all the other roms I've used.
