I do
why bother causing them to rage and flash their headlights and try and make rash undertaking maneuvers that could end up in a nasty 80mph accident that cost you and him your lives when you can ....
Just move over ?
My point is that I
will move over. The car behind just needs to wait. The car behind is being impatient. I will move over *when it is safe to do so* and not before.
If someone a) gets road rage and/or b) makes a rash manoeuvre because they can't wait the extra few seconds before I find a safe gap in the traffic to pull over into, they cannot blame me. I'll happily lay money on who the police would blame if someone did cause a crash by undertaking, and if you think they're wrong, then fine, we'll not agree.
Please don't call me a moron.
I think the main issue at hand is that while discussing this sort of issue on t'internet, people instantly jump to their own conclusions about lengths of time before someone pulls over, speeds that people are doing etc., and therefore my description of a situation might perhaps always seem inconsiderate to you. I should perhaps clarify: If someone comes up fast behind me, I will endeavour to let them past
when I can. I will not simply sit there and let them get angry for the sake of it. However, there are sufficient drivers out there who almost pre-emptively flash their horn, and who never even give me a chance to move anywhere before tail-gating me. If you're tail-gating me because you were driving so fast before coming up behind me that you can't slow down in time... guess what? You shouldn't be driving that fast.
Again, this has happened a number of times when there is traffic ahead of me, in all three lanes, the fastest of which is travelling at the same speed as me, and there are plenty of cars in my lane directly in front of me! I'm at the back of the queue and I have some idiot behind me expecting to be let through as if he's on blues and twos. If there's no-one right in front of me, chances are I'm overtaking, not cruising, as I don't cruise in the 3rd lane if there's not much traffic.
Assumption to all of this is that if I'm overtaking (because there's space) then I'm doing it at or over NSL.
Re: my previous comment about testing my brakes I was only joking: I will tap on the brake lights if you're genuinely too close, but I'm not stupid / rude enough to slow down.
