It's premeditated harassment, they didn't just say mean things, they actually planned it step by step using their own means of communication (forums) with the intention of causing psychological harm.

Mean things is me calling you an idiot, going to overclockers.forums, gathering hundreds of members, finding out your facebook page/work place/funeral home and touching a very sensitive issue (a disease/death of a family member/your herpes), that's not just saying mean things. We all say mean things, it's natural, what's not natural is planning it and doing it for your own amusement because it's normal acceptable behaviour... they are almost immune to society norms and rules because they do it online anonymously, which is why this needs to be addressed. People not only don't kill or steal because they know it's wrong, they also don't it because they know it's hard to get away with it.

Elaborate if you wish or say stuff that don't mean anything if you wish :p Anyway they're obviously free to do it if they wanted to give for the kids or anything but I don't see how if they could hire a private investigator and get proof that the partner cheated on them that it would be so weird to have one party protected from potential marriage abusers (gold diggers) who marry a guy for money then move on for more money.

I was just reading through the thread with the intention of posting something pretty similar to this. Far too often a moron or a bully is labelled a troll, it's just the latest buzz word.

I'm not complaining about anyone being annoying, I pointed out how it seems to be the people that annoy me are 4chan posters!

What are you not grasping about that? There is nothing hypocritical about it!

Yes, it can be devastating but there are many many reasons why people cheat. You can't just put a blanket ban on. And, who would police it? Whilst cheating ought to be brought up in divorce hearings and that should (in some scenarios) have a slight bearing on the outcome, there is no reason at all it should be a criminal offence. For a start, it would be almost impossible to police and investigate it.

It's just an absurd suggestion, something you'd expect to hear uttered by the Daily Mail. But in your credit, you did say it was a bit of a stupid suggestion.

I'm actually going to stick up for TH here but only for the reason that he's really calmed down on all the /b/ stuff. When I first found 4chan I thought /b/ was the funniest thing in the world and wouldn't stop talking about it. I hardly ever go there now, it's an old joke. Most people who visit 4chan regularly avoid /b/. There are what, 50 or so other boards?

No, you don't need to know the history but it does give perspective as to why a large part of that website is scorned by many other boards. Of course, this quickly gets into she said/he said stuff but the point remains. Educate yourself and see what you find. You might be surprised :)
 
There are four sets of people at fault, really:

1) The family, for believing that a 'tribute' page open to anybody on the internet is a suitable way to approach this in the first place.
2) The griefers, who obviously have no integrity and are most likely cowards.
3) Facebook for doing their best to opt everyone into everything, and not really trying to provide any security unless really pushed.
4) The governments for not having the balls to pursue legislation in this regard, especially as it's not exactly difficult to tie a post to a specific person these days (authentication removes anonymity in most cases).

Unfortunately, most people see the internet as being their for whatever they want it to be, and most people are different from most other people.

If anything happened to anyone in my family, the most there'd be would be a static page - an obituary. Anyone who knows us, knows exactly how to contact us without 'social networking'.

Edit: as for 4chan, that's the wonderful American 'Freedom of Speech' at its finest.
 
I don't understand how people in this thread can think try to justify something like this? Remember that they're mocking the tragic death of a teenager. Nothing funny about that.
