Just spent 4 hours assembling an Ikea sofa bed, all done and sorted after missing the match tonight, then as the pregnant missus opens it out and kneels on it to put the sheets on the thing rips apart down the sides where it was screwed together shattering the wood and giving her the shock from hell

Don't know if i'm more annoyed about the missing the match, wasting four hours of my life, the fact that I am now going to have to get into a barnie with Ikea tommorow over getting my money back as i'm sure they wont give it up easily. Or the fact that I am supposed to have guests staying with me on Friday and their bed is now an attractive pile of kindling.

What are Ikea like for getting refunds out of?

/rant over.

From what I gather, Ikea are a doddle for refunds. They're enormous, and they can stand the odd loss here and there. The loss of goodwill would cost more than the bed.

im sure you will let us know what there like for a refund tomorrow :)

never had a issue with ikea stuff to be honest.

First of all, 4 hours to assemble something from IKEA? LOL
Either your wife is huge or your DIY skills are non existent.

Hope the wife is alright, how much of the bed is broken? Can you not just get the spare parts from ikea?

I never have either, its always been really good stuff in regards to quality and ease of assembly. When I saw the join that was supposed to support everything I commented to the missus about how I doubted it would support even my weight. Let alone the couple we were supposed to have staying Friday. Luckily we found out the fault before they did, and she wasn't hurt.

She is fine thanks for asking, give her a cup of tea and a biscuit and she is content in her pregnant state mumbling and grumbling again :p

The wood sheared away from the side, no way of getting a screw into their anymore :(

Not a bed, but related... When I was putting together my computer desk I looked at one step in the instructions and thought "I'll be lucky if those screws don't split the chipboard when I'm applying some sideways force later on". I applied the sideways force. The screws split the chipboard. Useless. I ended up No More Nailsing it back together.

It's like Frankendesk now. I put double cranked hinges on the doors so they open all the way, and then had to replace the screws on one of the doors with bolts with massive washers after the door got knocked off a couple of months back.

Chipboard crap.

If they refuse to give you a refund tell that that you are going to post an advertisement in the local newspaper about how bad the service is.

was it the sofa bed that costs about £90? i got one of these 2 weeks ago and it's a 30 minute job (and that was on my own) even if it's not that one, it will be a similar construction. the bolts are a pain in the arse to line up with the side panels/arms but 4 hours is a massive fail!
