**CRAZY SSD MADNESS DEAL: LESS THAN £1 per Gigabyte Finally on OCZ SSD!**

Thanks for that :) That still looks like it would be a massive improvement over the standard hard drive. Any increase on the already impressive battery life?

The battery is at 100% so I'll just run it under normal usage for a bit and see how it goes :).

At the moment windows is predicting 8 hours on the 'Quiet office' setting, which is a few hours short of the usual, but I've found that the prediction is always a fair bit off after a bootup. I can't see it being less anyway :p, but possibly not much of an improvement.

Since making that post I've had the laptop on permanently, not doing anything massively strenuous. It's now at 45%, so I don't think it's made a massive difference to battery performance.

The more I use it though, the more I'm impressed with the thing! It feels so much more responsive now, and the total silence + no vibrations is awesome!

picked up a 30GB agility, couldn't resist since they are on Today Only for £42, not even sure what i'm going to do with it yet, probably throw it in my server for since I already have SSD's in my gaming comp, laptop and HTPC.

What are these Agility SSD drives like temperature wise compared to traditional ones? Been thinking of upgrading my Uni laptop as current drive while still doing the job usually hovers around 40-45C so gets tad hot on my lap.

I read a post on here a couple of days ago suggesting that SSD aren't that much cooler than traditional hard drives....

Not sure whther thats the truth or not though as I thought that was one of the big claims for SSD

Power usage on SSD's varies a lot, some manufacturers like Samsung have much lower power designs. With SSD's most of the power usage is when they are writing - when they are reading or idle much less power is needed, whereas hard drives need to keep the disk spinning.

Even at their peaks though, they are only similar to 2.5" laptop drives. They are much more efficient than 3.5" desktop drives.

This is all in terms of power usage though, as semi conductors SSD's probably convert more power to heat than traditional drives which have to mechanically move things. This could well account for similar temperatures despite different power usage.

I have a Vertex 2E and am very happy with it. I only use it for the O/S and small apps, big apps go on a Caviar black RAID 0. I had a Crucial C300 which I had nothing but problems with (currently being examined by the OCUK RMA team).

A nice tip, if you are worried about space, is to locate the recycle bin on another drive if you have one.

Good insights :) The more you post back about these, the more I want one! lol :D

Which was? ;)

Used screws to form little feet and secured it with a screw to the case at the rear.
