Samsung Galaxy S... highest spec Android phone released... also with QWERTY!

I cooked a ROM in the ROM Kitchen yesterday, have used it on 3 different SGS so far and I have to say it's fast as lightning on all of them. Faster than Darky's 9.5! JS8 base, JPY modem (GPS is fast to lock), speedmod k13d 500Hz kernel (no tweaks or lagfix on). No bugs at all so far, dead stable. The only drawback is the choice of themes don't have any good previews. I used the Docrom v4 theme but I did prefer the Darky's style.

Only oddity I noticed was that from the stock JPY kernel to speedmod (and voodoo), the screen looks very blue. Any reason why? I think speedmod has an option to alter that, suprised it's so different from one kernel to another. I compared JPY, speedmod and voodoo all side by side and only the first had realistic colours, the other too have too much contrast and blue! Any tips?

Not sure about the blue contrast but Ive found that after awhile speedmod always ends up going a bit crazy and my phone will just over heat all the time and drain my battery like crazy. Tired this on darky's roms, doc's roms, and even stock mostly on 2.2.1 and all had the same results. Although its really fast, fastest kernel Ive always just had that bug xD.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll keep an eye on it.

I think there is something you can change in the startup settings to do with colour profiles

Yes, you can go into recovery (CWM) and then speedmod settings, and there is an option to set a warmer colour. I've done it, but I need to compare it to one without now. It does look more balanced.

Guys, I've not kept up with ROMS for a few months, I'm currently running froyo with cusom kernal which gives me voodoo sound, 1.2ghz overclock and UV at lower freqs.

Is there currently a decent gingerbread rom thats stable (enough) and will give me voodoo sound plus OC/UV?

XDA can be a little difficult to wade though for info.....

Thanks.

Oooo, I'm loving that theme - very black and minimalist. How do you go about installing those? Are they flashed via Odin or are they put on the internal SD card and installed from there somehow?

I suggested to the creator that there should be a guide.

The most important thing is checking if it works on your ROM first. I'm using Doc's JS8 and it has been tested on that fine. Other ROMs may have issues. Technically, any deodexed ROM should work, but in practise they dont, so have a known working theme on your sdcard as a backup just in case.

Download the main zip file and put it on your internal sd. Boot into recovery mode (assuming you have Clockworkmod recovery) and choose install zip from sdcard (or similar option). Select the theme zip, wait until it finishes and reboot.

As for the font, it improves things a lot! Simply transfer the .apk to your internal sd and run it. It will then install like an app from the market (if you have a deodexed ROM!).

Not sure about the dialer, I think you need to replace the .apk in system/apps, but do make sure you backup the original first. Read the thread I linked for more details, it is covered, but not all in one place unfortunately.

I don't think so, the Kernel sources for Gingerbread haven't been released by Samsung, so as far as I know, those things won't be working at the moment. Gingerbread is imminent though, so it shouldn't be too long.

Which kernel are you using btw?

Also, I stumbled across this theme today: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=877306

I think that's close to perfect on my SGS, can anyone do better?
Thanks, I'm using: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=811660

And it hasn't been updated in a little while and I wanted latest voodoo sound, so thought I might go the whole hog and go to gingerbread... but without overclock and voodoo sound I'll just upgrade my kernel on froyo.

Think this is the one I'm going for: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=965103

There are rumblings that Gingerbread will be out today/tomorrow....

I will not post a source as it's all unconfirmed. It's in the final stages of testing for sure, and will definitely be out mid April, or so it's said...

Really? Where?

There's been two leaked ROMs so far, looks like the official one may well be pretty much the same as the last leak (JVK), though it did have bugs.
