Samsung Galaxy S... highest spec Android phone released... also with QWERTY!

Good luck with getting it sorted rG-tom.

News -

Samsung has apparently pulled the Gingerbread update from Kies, reason unknown, but it may be because it's still pretty buggy. Additionally, the sources have been released already, slightly quicker than expected. Perhaps Samsung want the community to fix it for them!

Yep, Kies seems to have stopped offering it. Apparently Samsung have stated 'technical issues' as the reason.

Meanwhile, JVA Gingerbread firmware (XW this time) is about to be released, according to samfirmware.

New Spotify app is now out. Faster, UI improvements but the best bit for me is you can now store your music on the external SD!
You have to log out, then at the login screen press menu, SD location /sdcard/external_sd

Has anybody tried darky's v10.0 RC4? Flashed it last night before I went to work, so far battery drain is on par with 9.5. So far I'm impressed, will see how it goes over the next few days. No bugs as of yet and bloody quick too.

Yup :D I had shocking battery drain at first but I let the phone completely discharge before charging it fully and wiping the battery stats. Now I get great battery life from it  It's a cracking rom so there's no complaints from me about it ;)

Ha! I spoke to soon. :( Battery was on 65% when I left it this morning, when I wake up Seven and a bit hours later It's dead. I'll leave it to recharge full then wipe the stats to see if that works. There is a fix for the mystery battery drain which I can try, if wiping the stats fails.

Those of you with GPS problems... new thread on XDA with possible fix... did not make much difference to mine as far as I can tell, but most replies are saying it worked a treat...

For those that don't like links... you basically pull the back cover off and apply pressure to the top of the GPS antenna...
If you get better lock, you stick some tape over the top and put the cover back on so the cover always applies the pressure to the antenna.

Credit to SXI200 on XDA :)

Noticed that yesterday too, sounds very promising! I'm waiting for a scientific explanation first as to why it works. I have the GT-i9000 service manual here and I can't work out what part exactly is having pressure on it. Any ideas? I assume it's a GPS antenna, but I don't see that on the disassembly pictures.

Thats what the OP says it is, the GPS antenna, I gave it a quick go myself, but results were not conclusive, needs much more testing when im Not in work...

Well, I just tried it and it didn't make any difference whatsoever. So either it's only a problem for some people, or I'm not doing it right. I consistently had 5/6 satellites in view, no lock.

If you have the GPS wander problem, turning off the positioning by mobile towers and just using GPS makes the fix more reliable and I find it doesn't offset my position strangely. Doesn't improve accuracy though.

Yeah, I stood by a window to get veiw of sky, got 6 sats fixed, then pressed the area and got 1 more sat, let go and dropped back to 6, pressed again and held a little longer and got 9 sats fixed... let go and no change, so I put a peice of paper over the antenna and put my case back on, and sitting at my desk, only getting 1 sat fixed, no more than I have had before... not a clear fix for me... but I will test further when I get out of work.

I think the suggestion is that it works on pre October build models, I got mine around that time...
