You can buy a base M4 or AR15 (civilian M16) as standard for around a grand though and it will shoot fine. I just wanted all the extras as it looks and performs damn cool.

That actually sounds fairly reasonable. I know AR-15's are around $800, plus $250 exportation fee, and all the shipping & RFD costs.

worrying to be honest. But considering you can get an gun for under £200 illegally i suppose there is no reason for a criminal to go to the bother of trying to get a licence, it could be worse i could live in the states.
Dont get me wrong im a bloke... i love guns, i just find it strange that they are so widely available, i always thought you could get a shotgun licence if you was a farmer etc i never realised it was so easy to get weapons.

Just picked up a Savage .308 bolt for hunting deer, goats and pigs.

Was down the range the other day and we took along the cabinet which consists of:

AR-15 semi auto .223 (lots of fun!)
Savage .308 bolt action
Ruger 7mm08 bolt action
Remmy 870 12g
A very old Winchester style cowboy rifle!

Starting the course soon to upgrade my licence for Pistols then on the hunt for a Glock 22. I'd love to get the Desert Eagle but the price makes me cry.

Off out for Easter weekend going Goat hunting at the local national park but taking the .308 incase we come across some venison. Yum!

How does the conversion work on your certificate? Do you have the same rifle listed twice?

Also, how many 5.56mm rounds are you allowed to hold on your cert?

Yes there is, and the good news is that they are getting more and more popular now as well. I don't do them as my local clubs down here don't run them but i'd certainly consider them in the future.

There are practical pistol events using long barreled pistols in .22LR that run quite often, just google practical pistol U.K. and something should come up. Most shooters in these events use the Browning Buckmark as it's the most widely available long barreled .22LR pistol in the U.K., although Low Mill Ranges sell an Iver Johnson .22LR M1911 pistol which i'd kill for, but they are £1200 vs the Buckmark at £600-700. There is also a seperate practical pistol league where all of the shooters use pimped up airsoft guns, normally fully loaded Western Arms Infinity's and the like.

The nearest we have to 3 gun in the U.K. is Mini Rifle. These run quite similar to 3 gun, shooting round barricades, snap shooting, advance to target etc. These obviously have to be shot using a .22 semi auto (as we can't have anything else in semi), and the M4 in .22, the Sig Sauer 522 and the Ruger 10/22 rule the roost in these shoots.

If you are thinking of either, say goodbye to at least £1000 once you've bought your pistol or rifle, as you'll need holsters, magazines, sights etc etc.

thanks for the info, ill start looking into it.
money isnt a problem ive already spent way more than that on airsoft :P

Here are some pics of shoots.

No 5 Enfield jungle carbine .303. The rifle to the right is a Siega version of the AK 47. To the left is a Winchester .308 that has a difficult bolt action and the wooden stock rifle is a Parker Hale T4 7.62mm which is a pleasure to shoot. It was a contender for sniper rifle trials in the British Army some years back I am told.

Becker .223 / 5.56mm. It is version of the M16 rifle adapted to comply with UK firearms legislation.

Yup the M4 is a section 1. All they have done to make it a bolt action is to leave out the gas tube and not drill a gas port on the top of the barrel, so they havent butchered it as they do with section 1 AK's for example. However, when the .22 kit is installed it becomes semi auto as the kit has its own blowback mechanism :D lots of fun!

that's remarkable that the government considers that acceptable to make it Section 1, all it would take to make it a Section 5 is a pillar drill and a bit of steel tubing.

Gas Tubes are hardly expensive, i think you'd be looking at about $40 worth of parts...

I'll say no more. ;)

<edit>
I suppose you'll find the content of my Sig reassuringly familiar? :D

oh of course not, and in no way was i encouraging or recommending that you did.

I was just surprised at how easy it would be, considering the normally fanatical lengths that the Government goes to to ensuring that S1 firearms stay Section1

still, in the event of TEOTWAWKI, it's something that would be pretty handy...

So basically converting these to full auto wouldn't be that much of a problem.
Semi-Auto:
no, assuming you have access to about 15 inches of either four or five millimetre steel tube, a couple of 1 or 2mm roll pins and a pillar drill.

Still very very very illegal.

Full Auto:
It depends on the configuration of the lower-receiver. Section5 includes semi-auto and fully auto rifles, as long as they're in a calibre other than .22 long rifle.
it looks like the Lower in Hairydavey's AR is full-auto capable, but he'd still need a full-auto hammer, sear, trigger etc...

Equally Illegal and not actually that much more useful.
