Vegas!

Rather than start a new thread... Rotty (or anyone else) - can you give me a pointer on a decent steak place fairly central on The Strip? Something around $75 per head for a main and sides and fairly informal? Only going to be there 2 nights on my upcoming trip so not enough time to experiment with loads of places!

is that in week or weekend ? this will affect what you can get for that money

been to the Atlantic City one and wasn't inmpressed

Been to the one in Vegas twice and it was good, admittedly not as good as SW steakhouse but not in the same price band. Not been to many steak houses in vegas though so there cold be better for the cash. :)

10 days in Vegas is mad, plus you are staying way off the strip so cab fairs will rack up.

5 days was more than enough inc the grand canyon day tour.

We went for 4 days and we didn't want to leave. Well we did, as we had a gig in New York the day after, but that's not the point:p

Why is 10 days mad?

Plenty of British chavs go to Greek or Spanish resorts and spend an entire week going to the same beach and same small group of bars/clubs every evening.

Given how much bigger and better developed Vegas is in terms of pools, clubs, hotels etc.. I don't see why 10 days is mad - sure its trashy as and will cost a few grand but I reckon it would be fun.

Its only 0.8 miles from the dead centre of the strip. It aint mad :)

As dowie says, and I've been on, you can fly through a fortnight holiday in somewhere like tenerife, where there is much less to see and do. Still a laugh though

The way we saw it, once the flight is payed for, the difference between staying for 7 nights or 10 nights isn't really 'that' much difference price wise.

An extra 3 days away somewhere with pretty much guaranteed sunshine, in a nice place - seems mad to me not to do it. If I'm spent up, I'll just chill by a pool for half a week. Its gotta beat work :)

Thanks for the map. Looks doable.

Rotty, how expensive is a night out? Not planning on bottle service with the $400 bottles of vodka. I'm thinking around a $100 will be adequate to get you through a night of drinks and giggles

Didnt know this thread was still atracting attention lol

I had a great time, will deff be going back but wont be staying at the strat it is a little out the way!

Must admit, the Rio is a fair way off the strip, but its a lovely hotel, and the buffet is absolutely awesome. As other people have said, there is a shuttle service that runs often so you shouldnt have too much trouble getting around.

One thing to know about Vegas is that most places have a cover charge, even the bars once you get past about 10pm. Definately recommend the Piano bar in New York New York for a good night out, or at least as the start of one. Nights out don't have to cost the earth, there are plenty of casinos along the middle of the strip where you can get a beer for 2 or 3 dollars, so you can get a good drink in before you hit up the clubs.

The thing that gets me is the damn video poker machines on the bar, oooh I'm waiting for the barman... I'll just stick $20 in here.. FARK.

I'm off to Vegas for 10 days on the 11th of May with the Mrs and a couple of friends, the plan is pretty much days by the pool or shopping, and then massive nights out. We're staying at the Westgate Towers @ PH as somebody we know has a timeshare there that they're not using this year.

You're doing it wrong fella. Playing the video poker gets me free drinks all night. Play the poker (you don't need to play hundreds, but look like you are putting a lot in. Use $1's & $5's), tip the barman with your first round and soon you'll be on free drinks.

I've walked out of plenty having made money and had free drinks. Also, get friendly with the barman, helps loads!

Saying that, "Julian" seemed rather keen last time I was there, scared the wife somewhat, lol!

And every Casino is 0.8 miles from the Rio, what happens when you head to the Northern or Southern parts of the strip that are a good hour walk away?

And you will be doing all of this whilst in the searing heat and in the night whilst being quite drunken and tired ;)

The heat and walking during the day WILL sap energy from you.

Vegas will just get to you and there are soo many days you can just go gambling, wondering around and lay by a pool surrounded by buildings.

Don't get me wrong, I love vegas, but could only do it for about 3 days now. When over there you must do the Grand Canyon, possibly look at driving to Death Valley and see a show. Also watch the sun go down from MIX Bar on the top floor of THE HOTEL @ Mandalay Bay. Top notch bar and amazing views, but get there for about 5:30pm to ensure you get seats outside.

How much are you prepared to gamble? Frees drinks (tip waitress) whilst gambling but you will be in for a shoclk whilst out in the fancy bars and clubs especially if you crack out the fancy drinks, shots and let the bottle pirates hound you :p

If you can get into a decent club without bottle service then admission will be about $30

drink prices vary massively, I can get a beer for $1 but $6-7 is more the norm, in a club you are looking at $8 for a beer and about $12-14 for a spirit/mixer

a night out can cost whatever you want but $100 is fine outside of the clubs
