we buy any car LOL @ my quote

on the application form they ask you about any scuffs, dints.

Yes, they then give you a rubbish quote as a result... then try to barter you down further when you get there on obvious used car points like the tyres having less than 8mm of tread left.

Really can't see any point in WBAC.com when you could just turn up to a few dealers and say "how much for this?" or even better throw it in an auction. The only people it attracts are those looking for an easy sale and these are exactly the people they know they can take the pee with.

Them adverts obviously worked though didnt they, hateful as they were.

Thats exactly it! They have found a market, and are working well in it. Its understandably difficult to understand it if you arent 'in' that market, but thats not to say they aren't good at what they do and successfull too.

Auctions are a bit do or die now i find, cars either make stupid money or nothing at all, i think its pot luck.

Yea the public can go.

Are they stupidly low?
I have been tempted to buy a car form there.
Can general public go?

Some people are afraid they will get a bad car or something, but all the cars at BCA have genuine historys and some of them are like new, yea its cheap, don't pick a car there is only a few of on the day like when i got my Clio and you will get a cheap car.

but all the cars at BCA have genuine historys

Errr really? there is a huge variety of cars on offer, everything from recent model ex-motability and full historied ex-fleet cars to crappy part ex's nobody wants and finance reposessions.

It's a complete melting pot of cars - some fantastic, some not so. They sell are tradeish money because its where the trade buys cars - the low price reflects the risk you take on in buying from auction - there is no test drive, there is no warranty and many of them have hidden faults. Done properly, buying at auction is great, but you really need to know what you are doing or you stand a chance of getting quite badly burnt.

They offered me £3,9XX for my Jaguar XKR... lol

Knew it was going to be low... but didn't expect such a silly ****take!

Thankfully I was only checking out of curiosity and will never be that desperate for money.

It's also not cheap these days either, partly because of the extortionate buyers fees and partly because of bidders who thing they're getting a bargain regardless, purely by being at an auction, and push the price way above the market value.

There are a few gems in there though, but that entails taking a risk on an unknown.

As Fox observes, you get a right mix of cars at auctions. They are not all 'genuine', that's for sure......many are utter nails :D

My poor 2003 VR5 only worth £435 -49.99 transaction fee...apparantly :p

I think it is fair to say though that 85%+ of people will be happy with what they buy there, and risky compared to what? Buying a car from a dealer with potentially just as many problems, backed up by a £80 warranty that won't cover most things.

Nice figure, where did you pull that from?

and risky compared to what?

Buying a car from an avenue that allows a full inspection and test drive prior to purchase, rather than effectively buying it blind (Well, based on a glance at the outside and watching a 20 second drive into a hall).

I take it your 197 came from BCA? Or are you a 'Do as I say but not as I do' kinda guy? ;)
