Idiots and merge in turn

So I'm half way past someone during an overtake, with cars behind me in both lanes, and you think the safest thing was to slow down?

Is this going to be another hindsight appreciation thread? :/

Why did you not think that prior to writing it?

I had no idea a topic about another idiot road user would ever be turned around on me

I mean, if I posted up "So I was travelling down the A12 today in the left hand lane as two lanes filtered in to one, and as I was being overtaken by a Clio, I thought it would be funny to put my foot down" I'd get ripped. So which is it?

If the ******* idiot next to you isn't going to let you in then yes?

wtf, What have the guys behind you got to do with anything? They ain't going to ram you off the bloody road for pulling in behind the guy being a fool.

The correct answer is always slow down, never speed up. As when you do that.... you get a sodding ticket.

Oh wait! Christ

For most other forum users here, I'm sure that would be right.

This is you, you get special treatment. You know that. ;)

Ah I can see it now... you slow down/continue speed limit to let him pull ahead while indicating left... and the idiot in the same lane behind you gets right up your rear holding down the horn and the idiot in the left hand behind you lane tries to come inside you.

If you don't see the issue with slowing down rapidly and pulling in behind someone when there are cars behind that will not be expecting it, you are in no position to be criticising me.

The shortest, quickest and safest way was to put my foot down.

There's a road around here and people really don't like you going in the outside lane to merge in up ahead.

It's just after a round about, and the stupid people don't realise that the road markings before the roundabout actually say to use the right hand lane as it stops the traffic backing up onto the roundabout, which becomes very busy during rush hour/holiday season.

And coming the other way the road even has a sign saying merge in turn :)

And it was super safe to spot the speed camera & "shave off the speed from the overtake, but an additional 10MPH as well." - panic brake?

Shortest, quickest and safest

Accidents in many scenario's happen through cutting corners or rushing & being safe does not sit well with either.

You are the one looking at a possible speeding ticket not me. Rapidly slowing down? how fast were you going? Do you drive around like a **** all the time or something? The drivers behind must have their eyes closed also then yeah? not expecting it? They just watched you try to over take and then the guy speed up trying not to let you passed, You were going to do one of two things, Get infront or behind. You chose to get infront.

I've been in the same situation myself, Guess what? I managed ok and didn't have to come crying to the internet about it.

The issue is that I didn't "panic brake" - if I had done that, this thread wouldn't exist and I wouldn't have three points on their way to my doorstep.

Ok, Idiot in left lane, I'm in the right lane, my rear windows are level with the front of said idiot and the cars behind are/have already catching/caught up with him and in the process of merging themselves.

You honestly don't see the issue with braking, here?

Two wrongs don't make a right.

There must be a better way to handle these bits of road... hate it myself theres 2 bits on the A303 the one just before stone henge heading west especially where I see the most retarded incidents every time i.e. the last time I was about 10 cars back in the queue from where it went to single lane and the van behind me pulled out, went all the way to the front and forced its way into the traffic 10 cars ahead.

You could have just anticipated the well marked lane merge & speed camera signs, sat back & flowed along with the rest of the weekend traffic.

Alas...
