Spec me a PC

Ah ok now after a few days of everything running fine... it has decided things don't want to work...

Defragged it and fired up shogun total war 2, then the processor usage started going up... and causing the game to lag...

tried restarting the computer now it won't start... it goes past the stage where it flashes up the motherboard name... then you get the flashing cursor and nothing...

any ideas?
 
ok, found the source of the problem to be my dodgy external HDD, so have unplugged it and its booted up ok... any way of checking for errors? and what went wrong?
 
maybe trying to boot from external HD and getting its knickers in a twist. Check BIOS boot priority (should be internal HD first).

run a chkdsk on the external hard drive, or some other disk scanning tools.
 
Can you when the dodgy HDD is plugged in, right click on it within my computer, properties then tools.

Seems a bit weird considering its worked ok literally 15 minutes before its happened...

just checking the disk for errors
 
Ahh now I feel like an idiot... could have sworn I checked those... somehow the usb HD had gotten in front of the internal drive in the boot list... ooooops
