The new Orange Android phone (San Francisco) £99...but a Question??

I've got one of these sat at home for me ready from when I get back from work. Any guidance on what to do with it via flashing etc. I'm after something stable with the wi-fi fix if possible?

If anyone can provide me with links etc that would be great. :)

Couldn't find a ROM I liked so I edited Pauls Modaco ROM.

It seems fine, all I've done is return all gingerbread bits to stock froyo and remove a lot of the system apps that were not needed, also changed the boot screen to the nexus one.

Give it a go please :)

i use the HTC Qwerty thats available for SanFrans :) I also have Swype but i use that for typing much faster like for emails and instant messaging, HTC for everything else. I would love to use swype, with a HTC skin, it would look pretty good imo :)
 
I do not know which keyboard could be considered to be the best as I just use the "Go Keyboard" created by the same team who produce Go SMS. It just does what I want it to do and I like the plugins etc that are available.

Really think long and hard and have a read before you do the above.

Firstly changing to GEN 2, regardless of being "safe" or not, might not be what you want or need.

Secondly there are plenty of bugs in that ROM which might be problematic for you in your everyday use of the phone.

Whilst I enjoyed using the nightly CM7 builds from a "fully" functioning phone I much prefer the phat version of LanceH's SS rLS5...

both me and my wife use the one above.

As the poster was after something "stable" then changing to GEN 2 to then flash CM7 is not a path I would have suggested.

On writing the above I have noted that my B08 San Fran is "better" with a GEN 2 change and that SS ROM. My wife's B10 San Fran runs it fine as a GEN 1. The "issue" for me was partial wakes of the dialler that were resolved with the GEN change.

If this phone is new to you then spend a while hanging out in the above forums and read, read and then read a little more to familiarise yourself with what is on offer.

I don't think upgrading to Gen 2 is an issue - if the rom which most suits your need is Gen 2, then there is no point not upgrading to Gen 2.

On the version on CM7 I run, which can be found in the thread (I have copied part of the relevant section below, you will still need to read the whole first post in the thread) it is stable. Note that someone with major stability errors is almost certainly using a nightly build.

I know that stable actually means very minor bugs but you get this on all custom roms and these bugs do not affect everyday use.

Additionally, the CM7 rom gives the poster a lot less to worry about; for the first modification of a ZTE blade there is a very short, simple and clear method.

I know that there are pros and cons of all roms but I don't see stability being an issue.
 
Ok lets rewrite it.

I upgraded my wifes to Gen2 and CM7, wife was not happy. So I tried the phat version of LanceH's SS rLS5. But got no signal (some others had this to). So I tried Swedish Spring RLS5, all ok now.

I did a restore of Apps and data (titanium backup) only her down loaded apps.

But angry birds does not work. If I uninstall it and reinstall of the market its fine. But she has to start from the beginning again. (she wont be happy) If I restore the data It wont work again.

Any help would be great and save me ear ache.
 
I'm not sure that there is much you can do - and you have an angry bird on your shoulders... (excuse my puns). Buy her some flowers or cook the dinner?

a bit of a faf but you can restore the phone to a working nandroid backup and then you can get at the angry birds save games file only using a root file explorer. Then restore to what ever rom you like. Install angry birds the proper way and then copy in the save games.
