Man Utd...Champions for a record 19th time.

Looking at the content of a surprising proportion of this thread, I look forward to 'gate-crashing' the next Merseyside 'this is our year' orgy.

And how magnanimous, posts composed mostly about how poor the league has been and then a tagline - "United, best of the worst!". But then this place would be boring if everyone were the bigger people, wouldn't it...

To be fair I think quite a few Liverpool fans have been magnanimous in the thread, several of us have
congratulated utd, not only for this season but for the 19. Several of us have said they've deserved it.

Also to be fair, I do think its been a comparatively poor season this year, and it would seem that even many utd fans agree that this season has been quite a poor one for many of the teams in the league. So that seems like a fair comment to me.

You're right about one thing though, if only everyone was so reasonable about the opposition, both Liverpool AND utd fans included in that, then the place would indeed be filled with less vitriol. Unfortunately it seems there are all too many Liverpool fans who can never say a good thing about utd and all too many utd fans who can never say a good thing about Liverpool.

drunk much
I am now.

What the hell do you do when you're drunk?

I think that depends on your definition of 'bigger man', I wouldn't really count going on about the rest of the teams being so poor for more than half the 'congratulations' post as such, but horses for courses and all that... at least it's not Munich chanting, eh?

I would hate this place if everyone was reasonable. We have enough sensible posters to get along, but where would we be with the non-sensical biggoted ramblings of the envious masses, pried almost straight from the Daily Mail itself?

Do we come here to agree or do we come here to disagree?

I come here to neither agree or disagree, I would see no point in coming with the intent of specifically agreeing or disagreeing. I come for intelligent ,mature discussion. I don't always get it, but its why I come. If I wanted unreasonable behaviour I could just go down the high street and listen to any fool citizen of the country.

I personally don't think that more than half the congratulations were saying that the rest were poor, I myself said it was a poor season for many of the big teams ( I did not however say all the rest were and utd weren't, simply stated that I felt by normal standards the big teams weren't up to their usual performances , which I stand by). That's a statement of how I felt the season was for everyone, not a disparaging remark specifically about utd. I'll have to count now and see if it was more than half who said it in a congratulations though.

Edit: after a quick count I'd say its not more than half of the congratulations who said the rest were poor. Admittedly its late so maybe I miscounted.

You mean you don't love watching highlights of wins?

Just showed every decision united got lucky with. Mind you could do it for most teams but they did leave out quite a few.

Nothing as significant as the three points Chelsea got against Spurs mind you, but that wouldnt have fitted into the MOTD montage of course (to name one event which worked highly against Utd)

Would you think it fair to say that there hasn't been any team that has been "standout" better than the rest? I'd congratulate Man Utd on winning the league and reaching 19 league titles as that's truly remarkable but I don't think that it's an unreasonable assessment to say that by their standards this has not been one of their better showings. It's been enough and they've still got the chance to win the Champion's League as well so it's a season where they've done well but with a team that I think anyone would struggle to hold up with the best to have worn the shirt.

All the MU fans I know are quite happy with what we have achieved this season anyway, it's only on here you get people having to bring up how crap the other teams were and how the squad is one of the worst.

Makes it all the sweeter that we beat the entire country with a **** squad and playing crap :D

And you should be happy, it's an amazing achievement to win 19 league titles however you do it. The league has been closer than many years - whether it's that the other teams have been better or that the bigger teams have been worse isn't hugely important, it's the end result and breaking the record that will be remembered.

As I say though I don't think it's unfair to note that it's not the best set of players ever to make a Man Utd team but they've won enough games regardless so who cares how they did it. :)

To united's credit - pretty much everyone i know is either a United fan or a City fan, and the only banter (if you call it that) i've been on the receiving end of is from two city fans who somehow think they'r a far superior team because they won one of the most boring FA cup finals in recent memory.

There were plenty as significant and the montage was about United, it also included your fantastic goalkeeper, cb and your signing of the season.
Anyhow congrats, hopefully we can get back to where we belong, atleast you all recognise it's our perch you're sitting on :p

Had this conversation with a friend who supports UTD and he was attempting to rub it in my face with every sentence he could through out the day >.<

But anyway Well done to UTD, Their is many reasons we haven't challenged for a long time but nothing can be taken away from UTD achievement and Fergies.

This is said a lot but im not sure it stands up.

The midfield HAS been an issue this season, no doubt about that, as has the away form. However look at the rest.

Since the Great Dane has there been a better goalkeeping season than the one VDS has put in this year?

Are Rio and Vidic not one of the best CB pairings in world football? And if one of them is missing could we have asked any more of Smalling in his first season?

Evra is easily one of the best full backs in the world today and the twins have come on in leaps and bounds too.

Nani, as much as im not convinced by him has an awesome amount of assists and Park and Valencia have made great contributions in the second half of the season.

Up front the guy who has effectively been our reserve striker for half the season is still the leading scorer, Rooney is back on form and Hernandez is easily the buy of the season. There hasnt been a more confortable set of strikers since 99.

Its really a strong squad when you break it down. We are probably lacking a midfielder or two (Yaya Toure would have been immense) but aside from that i think a lack of one individual star a la Ronaldo is making people think the squad lack quality which i think is a little unfair.

I hope shamikebab was watching MOTD then, to refresh his memory of some of the things United have got away with he seems to have forgotten :p

Dont support Man U but thought that was just stupid, so what they have had decisions go for them, just like all other teams. They have also had many plenty of other decisions go against them, pretty sure more than most top teams. Ive never seen MOTD do anything like that before, and thought it was just another way the ABU MOTD team to try and show them in a bad light, or as unworthy champions.

Not really, they were just showing how united have really rode their luck this season - the amount of late goals (more mentality than luck) and decisions in their favour have played a part in them winning this season. However it was immediately contrasted with superb performances from VDS, Vidic, Hernandez and Rooney, probably United's 4 most important players this season.
