£80 to fill up!

My record is Inverkiething to Plymouth on one tank. I have acheived better economy before but not over a complete tank - usually I end up completing the journey before the tank runs out.

I don't think I've ever managed to cram more than 69.8 litres into my 70 litre tank and that includes occasions when I've literally coasted into the fuel station on fumes :p

I've never been able to match what the max is, usually 3-4 litres under :(

Gretna to Gatwick was 360 miles
Gatwick to leicester was 140 miles so managed about 500 miles out of my 77 litre tank.

Thats approximately 17 gallons. 500 miles to 17 gallons is just over 29 mpg average. Not amazing but the furthest i've gone on a single tank of petrol.

It's spelt Inverkeithing Fox, literally minutes from my house - you could have popped in for a coffee bud :)

// Edit - back on topic, put £38.00 in the Seat Arosa last Fri. Done about 170 miles so far and still above the half tank on the gauge ;)

I once got 39.2mpg verified (Full tank leaving Plymouth, brimmed it in Bristol) but that wasn't over a tank. My best long-distance record is again 39mpg from Exeter to York, but the tank average was then brought down by some town driving at the end.

Beautiful part of the country :)

Your 'fumes' are obviously not close enough to the bone.

It's only when you pull into a petrol station with your car misfiring due to the lack of fuel do you really know now what it is like to be running on fumes

Random question; what tyres did you have on for 39+ mpg? I'm trying to decide if there is something more to it or my engine just aint as efficient, with cruise set to 70mph GPS on the motorway it doesn't get over 34ish on a long run (CS3s)! Never verified it though only relying on trip readout.

The long trip had 17" Dunlop SP Sport 2000E.

The more recent trip to Bristol had 18" Continental Contisport Contact 3.

Eagle F1's reduced fuel economy by about 2-3mpg.

That said I've found it quite difficult to repeat the 39mpg.

I'll let you know tommorrow :p

Started on the biodiesel recently (genuine retail taxed stuff). Around 10p a litre cheaper than normal diesel where I get it. I've started on roughtly B50 and going to gradually up the bio content.

Will mean an extra fuel filter change at some point but I'm due a full service soon anyway.

We'll see how I go...

I don't think I could ever fill the car up unless it was one long trip where I couldn't be bothered to stop! It'd cost the best part of £110 which I don't think I could bare!

I usually put normal unleaded in it.. but my dad went to fill it up this time.. and he though he'd put super in it :D

I did notice the difference though :)
And the car is only mostly used around town, at rush hour.

I'm averaging 28MPG so it's probably not even 260 miles :(

28mpg out of a 1.4 astra WTF are you doing to it? I get not far off that on a 2.5l Turbo Focus lol

Just arrived at Cribbs Causeway for a quick drink - showing 39.7mpg since Plymouth, average speed 65.3mph :D

I'd rather drive a 3 litre petrol at the speed limit than a 2.0 diesel at 85 ;)

My Fiesta ST is better MPG than my old 1.4 civic.

Costs me dead on 50 quid to fill the tank and i get about 320 miles out of it, about 41MPG. And about 200 miles of that is doing a ton down M1 every week.

Car costs me around £200 a month on petrol to run. Don't get paid a penny of it back either from work the tight barstewards.

That is pretty good, I could only manage 38-39 in my 323i when driving anally. Although that did have Eagle F1s on it.
