I'm having a tough time figuring out what drinks to have at the wedding breakfast and how many. I'm thinking 1 white wine, 1 red wine and some bottled water per table of 8?

You mean in terms of what you should put on as the table drinks for guests? That amount wouldn't seem unreasonable to me but maybe it depends how rowdy an affair you want it to be.

I don't drink wine so it's hard for me to imagine what is a good amount per table or even the correct choice of colour. It'll hopefully be a very hot day in August if that makes any difference. I'd rather have a cold beer :)

I normally have 2 bottles to myself pre night out so I think that's a good start. Lots of people can drink more than me.

I think we put a bottle of red and a bottle of white on each table of 8-10 and then had one of each on standby if anyone asked for it. Since mose people don't ask for it we didn't have to pay for the unused bottles which otherwise would have been opened just because they were on the table.

We also just had jugs of water instead of bottles.

If you are still unsure about the bar for the evening then we gave everyone 2 tokens in the favours bag which would each get them a drink/shot at the bar. If you wanted a double then it cost you two tokens and after that you paid yourself. Everyone liked the fact that they got a couple of freebies but also respected the fact that we were not there to pay for them to get wrecked. The bar bill for 130 odd came to just under £600 so about £4.60 per head so evidently some people didn't even bother using the tokens. Fine by me.

Long gone are the days when the bar should be free.

I'm now trying to think back to the last wedding where I went for and what they had, I think it was 3-4 bottles of wine per table but only one of each on the table at any one time and you could ask to have more/less of the red or white, it was probably about a bottle per 2 people. However I don't know what your budget it here and it wouldn't do to forget about the people who don't drink either.

I thinking 1 white wine, 1 red wine and some bottled water should be fine for each table. Most of the men will be drinking beer and only really the women drinking wine.

For 60 people split over 8 or 9 tables we had 10 bottles of red, 10 white and 10 rosé on the tables. For the toasts we had 12 bottles of a nicer rosé, can't remember the name.

Everyone was very drunk at my wedding, the paying bar was also open from 12pm :p

edit/

Just remembered, we had 7 tables and 1 head table, so 1 bottle of each on the tables and 3 bottles of each on the head table.

Also beware of how much you get charged for orange juice, I thought it was included and after the wedding I got a bill for £100 worth of orange juice!

That's reminded me of a story from ages ago. I had a friend who only drank white wine and once a week him and his wife would share a bottle (oldish couple) with a meal. They are an oldish couple in their sixties

I personally prefer red (but drink both) and kept saying to them that they should at least try a bottle of red.

Anyway, one night a got a phone call from the wife panicing and asking if I could pop round as the husband wasn;t very well and couldn't use his legs and she can't get him upstairs to bed. They had taken my sugestion and bought a bottle of red wine but she had a smal glass and didn;t like it but her husband loved it and had drunk the whole bottle to himself.

Fair enough I thought, red's are general stronger than whites and he had drunk most of a bottle. Anyway, he was indeed absolutely slaughtered so I got him upstairs to bed. I was having a cup of tea with the wife and asked her to show me the bottle they had bought out of interest so I could have a look at how much alcohol was in it. She handed me the bottle and it said "Taylors LBV port"

No wonder the bloke was plastered.:D

It’s a good starter. You might want to make that two bottles of water sparkling/still. It only takes three wine drinkers on a table and it will go very quickly. I would have another two bottles of wine in reserve for each table if you can afford it.

To the OP. One of each with back up bottles if needed/asked for is fair enough assuming you have enough money in the budget for it?

I remember my mates wedding where there was 4 of each on each table of 10 people plus a free bar. It wasn;t pretty and the bar bill for 60 people came to almost £2000 as well.

For breakfast?

Is this normal?

I couldn't think of anything worse than drinking wine, I'd be wanting some juices, tea/coffee and bucks fizz/champagne for a toast, that's all!
