"I think so. You can't predict things in football because anything can happen. But I am enjoying it here."

I would put your house on him staying then.

''another''? i'd say you paid about the right price for carrick and berbatov tbf

Carrick maybe/probably (worth it though) - Berba hmmm debatable, certainly took his time to become the player he should have been 1 or 2 seasons previously

Could see Modrc costing Sneijder kind of money if not more (due to transfer within the same league) and his relatively new 5 year extension

For anyone to judge Bebe so early is madness. The lad has come from hardly playing professional football to Manchester United, one of the biggest clubs in the world, it's going to be a long curve and SAF has always said that.

1) Smalling did exactly that in the same time frame, and had a dramatic effect on Utd's season (in a good way). I dont expect every player to make such a change so quickly but SOME indication in 1st team games should be expected yes (which to be fair has been all but non-existant)

2) For the fee he cost again some indication of what his potential for the 1st team should be seen, and seeing as he cost more than twice the price of Obertan (if the figure advertised is true of course), and yet they are both doing pretty well nothing , personally think my original comment was more than justified :)

The lad cost £7m, its perfectly acceptable to be looking for hints as to what we got for our money, other than reducing Portugals homeless statistics by the tune of one im not entirely sure what the signing achieved.

We made 3 summer signings all of which raised an eyebrow or two. You can see exactly why Smalling cost £10m already and the success of Hernandez speaks for itself. While it is not fair to expect that from EVERY young signing you at least want to see some promise or raw materials that give hope for the future. I remember Rafaels first game in a friendly a couple of years ago and while he was very raw you could see that the promise was there.

As for Obertan, it strikes me that while he is a headless chicken with his final ball/shot there is some skill there. The problem is i dont think he has the bottle to play for a top club, a bit like Ben Foster in that respect. Its no coincidence that Obertan looks very confident in the reserves and looks scared in the PL.

It's great seeing players like Modric thrive in the Premier League. Seems like a level-headed chap too. I'd happily watch Bale and Van der Vaart leave if Modric stays.

When Spurs do sell him, I doubt it'll be for under £30mil. People sometimes forget that he's still Spurs' most expensive signing ever.

Bebe position is still from what I understand, relatively unknown. I don't think he is the winger as originally thought and played in the side - more a striker. It's been commented on by players how good his finishing is. He's very fast as well and occasionally he shows potential.

I just think it's very early on to be taking pops at Bebe when the lads hardly just got here. And I don't think he can speak a word of English. The circumstances of Bebe to Smalling & Hernandez are quite different.

The lad could be a crock of ****, or an absolute gem, it's pretty early on.

In the few first team appearances he has made, and I'm not saying it for effect, he doesnt even look a park player.

Your average sunday league player can control the ball with his chest, take a ball on on the run either out the air or on the ground and have a least some close control.
Bebe looks like he doesnt even know what a football is.

I agree he is whippet fast, but unless he is someone who goes completely to pieces being played a bit out of position IE from up front to on the wing, there doesnt look to be anything there at all.

Smalling was:

1: Already playing in England
2. Had football at Fulham

Only just seen that original Frank post.

The circumstances of Bebe to Smalling were very far apart.

Even the circumstances of Bebe to Hernandez were pretty far apart, he was already playing in the Mexico side etc and has incredible English.

Bebe has shown raw talent in places and I've seen some good clips, but have also seen a terrible side.

I just think it's pretty premature to be putting such a downer on the lad. The £7M price tag has put such expectancy on him I don't think people will ever warm to him or anything.

EDIT: Additionally it was originally said that his fitness was very far off - which we saw very clearly when he was getting game time. I expect this has something to do with not popping up so much also.

Its football, at 20 years old or however old he is, you would still be able to...... play football at some degree.

I should say most of us have a fair idea whether someone is either nervous, a crap footballer, or just simply cant play at all.

I would love him to turn out to be a revelation, a previously undiscovered gem of a player and it all turns out really well and he makes a million billion pounds, scores hundreds of goals and has us all on the edge of our seats with excitement.

He wont though.

I think you underestimate how much moving to a completely different country and level of football can affect you. Let's face it, can you think of a single other footballer that has had to make the move Bebe has? From not even professional level in a different country straight to one of the biggest clubs in the world.

I say we give him a bit longer than a few starts.

I would still say "hardly playing professional footballl" fits Smalling considering where he was 2 seasons ago

Portugal isnt exactly Outer Mongolia either, if you have the natural skill it will be obvious by now if x player can ever get to the required level

Even with his little experience while at Fulham Smalling was capped at U21 level multiple times, Bebe also has Nani and Anderson to help him feel more settled if that is even an issue

So tell me why Valencia can come back from a badly broken leg in under 6 months, yet a player with "fitness very far off" with the same facilities available , and lets face it - a lot more down to him rather than physical healing (which is just a matter of time) is not seen at all in the same time frame?

I say we give him a bit longer than a few starts.

Its the time frame between the starts rather than the actual number of starts thats concerning imo :)

The jury is still out on Bebe, however when he has played, he hasnt really shown anything great. I just think that after Ronaldo and Nani, Fergie heard the words, fast portuguse prospect and just bought him up anyway unde the pretences that Real M. were also interested.

Still if it works out that out of 3 transfers, Hernan, Smalling and Bebe that only 2 are great signings then we will have to be content with that, as 2/3 isnt that bad for the combind price of the signings.

Hernandez and Smalling have more than made up for Bebe this season and look set to more than cover his signing in the future judging on their ability and age.
