He's allowed to drop deep and generally go wherever he wants because he's got a midfield behind him. Putting him in the midfield to start off with would be no more beneficial than when he was stuck wide with the so called license to roam

I wonder when people will stop thinking just because Rooney excels in the number 10 position that means he can play midfield
