Samsung SA 950

Fixed. ;)

I have been incessantly pestering Samsung and some of their reps about this and I actually believe them when they say they don't know for sure. Fingers crossed for June! :p

Keep pestering! ;)

June? :( Lets hope that means next week! :D

I NEED some low lag, rapid response, 27inch, 1080p 120Hz action!

Waiting for new kit is rubbish! :(

Yes, but it's 120hz, the technology isn't ready yet for anything higher. Of course we'd all prefer higher, it's a trade off.
We've had people complaining that it's a TN panel as well
This monitor would be perfect for my jap xbox. Right now I have to kick people off the telly if I want to play cave shmups. With this monitor I could have it in my room :D
Too bad about the lack of in built speakers but I think it's got audio out.
I'm still debating my self to be honest. I love the 16:10 1920x1200 TN monitor I have at the minute (245B) but 120hz just blows it out of the water.

27" and only 1980x1080??

very poor showing for a new panel..

Sigh, people still do not realize that with current connectivity options; having 120Hz and a resolution higher than 1920x1080 are mutually exclusive! You cannot have both.

So, Samsung know exactly what they are doing.

the tech is ready for higher resolution monitors, but the likes of Samsung want to milk us for money with the same old 1080 16:9 panels, this tech is nearly 10 years old in PC monitor tech.

we should aim aim for 1440p or 1600p with 27" panels, at 1080 the pixels are too big for 27".

LG, Samsung and Chi mei have been making those panels for nearly 4 years now...

as for the bandwidth questions.. Display port is the answer.

Your missing the point. The panel tech is there, but the interface tech is not. Dual Link DVI (the highest bandwidth common gfx card interface) does not support over 1080p at 120Hz. You can use Dual Link DVI for higher res at 60Hz but not 120Hz! 120Hz requires twice the bandwidth for the same resolution, Hence the max supported resolution is lower.

Display port is not yet common, so using that would be MASSIVELY limiting for sales.

Aside from bandwidth limitations, which would limit the market considerably as DisplayPort would be the only option (as mentioned above) - the price of the S27A950 if it had a WQHD resolution doesn't bare thinking about and is simply not viable in the current market. Samsung are likely pushing the boundaries a little and the price will place many people out of their comfort zone for what is essentially a Full HD TN panel monitor - they really can't go further on that one. Furthermore there is only a small minority of people with systems capable of sustaining a good framerate of over 100fps (to get real benefit from the 120Hz refresh rate when gaming) at a WQHD resolution without making things look like a high-res N64 game.

Yeah, my rig is no slouch and I'm very happy with the framerates I'm getting at the minute but if I went for a higher resolution, 1440 or 1600, I know that I wouldn't be happy and as pcm said, if it was a 120hz display, it would be a total waste.

So what of the TA950? Is this the same as the SA, but with speakers and a few more inputs, and does it have DL-DVI? or Displayport? I know it has a slower response time (5ms instead of 2ms) but that doesn't bother me too much tbh..

Just want to know whether I could play 3D games from my PC, or 120hz from my PC at full res? (only two options for that is Displayport + DL-DVI). Samsung's website just mentions PC connection.. Hence my unknowing :P

But yes it still seems as June will be the release in the UK at least.

This was covered on the previous page - don't blame you for missing it mind! Why would you look back over all this hype and propaganda? ;) http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=19182837&postcount=100

I suppose you have got a point about systems handling 1080p at over 100fps, let alone 1440p/1600p.

Im just a bit concerned that 'fullHD' tag is being over sold on PC monitors a bit. We had 1280x1024 monitors since.. I don't know.. since god was a little child!

TV monitor resolution will always lag PC monitor resolution, but panel makers like Samsung who sell on bling value would rather keep it at 1080 as its easier for them to increase profit margins.. and unless their 1440/1600 panels are cheap they are not likely to sell in mass.

No, and you won't see any screen tearing so long as your framerate stays under 120fps. I was capping my framerate at 110 on blops and portal 2 for example.
Enabling vsync even at 120hz will still introduce mouse lag so leave it off.
