Patience, perhaps. Skill, no. Sniping on the front line is all split second twitch headshots and takes far more skill.

If you really want to get into the specifics of perceived skill levels regarding a long distance sniper to one in close quarters then I am completely willing to batter you with logic and fact until you feel nauseous.

Or we can agree that both sniping methodologies have skill elements, neither being any 'more' skilled than the other... ;)

Luck plays a much greater factor in long range sniping as you're reliant on your target continuing to run into your bullet. It's a joint effort. Not to mention all the other variables that are impossible to judge with consistent accuracy - again, chance rears it's head. Rambo sniping is pure reactions, aiming, and awareness - it takes the chance out of the equation. You can try and batter me with logic all you want, but too much time spent sniping in various games says you're wrong :p

Regardless, 9/10 snipers who sit at the back of the map would be more use to their team running towards the enemy shooting their guns randomly in the air - then at least they may act as a distraction. It baffles me why EA have made this choice as the sniping was one of the things BC2 got right.

Anyone else catch the ad for this during the Champions League Final last night? It was shown in the next ad break after the MW3 advert, one of the most expensive ad slots you can buy and would have been seen by a lot of people - good to see EA really pushing this title to the masses :)

Battlefield 3 trailers wasnt on max settings?

The BF3 Demo was, understandably, showcased on a rather beastly PC. What better way to show off the visual prowess of the Frostbite 2 engine, right?

Interestingly, although a bit hazy on the specifics of the hardware, Patrick told us (Atomic) that the demo was played on a computer with standard high-end components and a single NVIDIA 580 Video card.

According to Patrick, the minimum requirements for running BF3 on PC are quite reasonable.
"Without going into detail, if you have a PC with equivalent hardware matching the consoles - not CPU per CPU, but matching output, thats your low spec."

He went on to claim that the computer that will be able to run BF3 on Full settings has yet to be Built.

Snipers should be taken out of BF3 altogether, quick scoping is just stupid and not life like at all, and long range in most FPS's is pointless (apart from ARMA2, where snipers are used mostly as recon as per real life).

Full settings - As in an obscene amount of AA, which isn't really necessary anyway on high res monitors, except for e-peen value.

I wish they would make a bold move like that(it isnt really a bold move). But they've got to have them because they've always had them its a required convention no matter if they work or not.

They are a purely specialised war implement. They dont belong in a fast paced game like this.

Im starting to wonder if my 4870x2 will be up to this game. In fairness to it though, it runs bc2 perfectly and i doubt it would struggle with mw3 so im holding out on upgrading unless its really struggling. Would probs need a psu upgrade while i am at it too....

Except that Battlefield is *meant* to be a team/squad based affair, and in a well coordinated team, a well-placed sniper or two can make a big difference in breaking a deadlock for example, as well as scouting out the enemy, calling in support and sneaking behind enemy lines.

They're indeed specialised, and not always needed, but it doesn't mean they're useless either.

it wont be upto it as bf3 is directx 11 only

Sounds like crysis. Its mostly the gameplay that matters but I'd be impressed if the min spec made it playable on an older quad setup too.
Theres no AI? So whys it need a quad anyway, they must have a lot of high poly models in there

I managed to get arma2 working on a nvidia 6800, now thats scalable :o

squark have a kitkat ;)

youve been told it will run on xbox 360 power cards (equiv) and cpu .

so min is 7800 gtx but direct x 10 or 11 which is low by todays standards.

cant be bothered to find which card this would be in 10 or 11 but there you go.

youll be fine like bfbc2 if you have a decent quad and a reasonable card .

They should remove riflemen and medics and engineers then too.

Medics cant heal people magically with a box or bring the dead back to life.

Infantry men don't sped all thier time running around like headless chickens firing full auto and sprinting non stop for 10 miles.

and "engineers2 don't cay 8 + rockets or a magic impact wrench that heals an and all vehicles just by scraping the paint off.
