work is really picking up, even though i dont have a website. However, i have got to the point where i think i need something a little more pro than flickr.

I have no web experience at all, cant code, nada....

A wordpress hoster looks like an option, and then i can buy a theme. Does anyone have any suggestions or experience? Are they relatively easy to manage?

Cheers

Adam.

I use http://www.kvcwebsitehosting.com/

Not long started a new 3yr deal for about £75 (the "C Hosting" option), even includes a free domain name (although I don't use mine - yet).

Uses cPanel for easy use of installing the likes of Wordpress, Gallery, forums etc. (but then most do now).

Unltd storage & bandwidth, but like all non-dedicated hosts, there are certain restrictions you need to check on before you hit "buy". These include overuse of resources (some can be quite low), so you don't impact on other users sharing the server. This one I use has an 8core Xeon 2.2 CPU + 10GB RAM, which is better than most, and also seems much more responsive than any other host I've used so far.

I tend to use "live-chat" or call the companies direct to see how quick & useful their responses are, and also to ask about the limitations they impose, rather than read through all those T&C's (read them later when you narrow your choice).

I'm sure others have plenty of experiences etc. and will soon add their views etc. ;)

HTH

PS
I need to stop faffing about and sort my own site ASAP, although mine is just for personal use anyway :)

for hosting, you cant beat vidahost (or tsohost)

but that wasn't the question

one option is zenfolio.. i have been playing around with it for a while and it seems to be quite good

but i would also be interested to see others opinions and what wordpress can do

I have a free one with a service called weebly. If you can live with their name in your domain name then worth a go to start you off with, if you want to then, register your own domain and just link it to the free site. I have about 50 photos on there and no mention yet of a limit on web space?

can recommend TSOHost, service is great. logged a technical query at 11pm one evening and had a reply 10-15 mins later.

built mine myself, uses a slideshowpro slideshow on the front page and photocart gallery/store platform.

Yeah tsohost are amazingly good, never had any problems with my sites and they respond to emails within the hour.

I was thinking about wordpress but the need to set up a php/sql host sent me mad *wibble*

Is it hard?

hmmm. i can get well reviewed hosting with a domain for $6.50 a month which seems cheap. Then wordpress... then maybe buy a pro theme such as this

http://www.gallyapp.com/tf_themes/kin_wp/ for $30

trouble is, until i buy the theme, i have no idea how complex it is to manage....

That is gorgeous! Mine is a basic style of that. Horizontal things that I built myself. I was half way through it and just abandoned it but then I am a bugger for starting and dropping a project.

You shouldn't really be doing that anyway. It should be provided by your hosting.

There are some great Wordpress themes out there. I built my own, but I'd look at http://themeforest.net/searches?term=photography&categories[wordpress]=1 (hmm ocuk doesnt like square brackets in URLs) before others sites. Things like this look awesome: http://themeforest.net/item/photorific-photography-wordpress-theme/168736

In reality, those designs are cheap as chips and the well written ones have good documentation/live previews. You can get a good idea of what you're letting yourself in for.
