No, but he's still a good player, and far better than Valencia or Park, and can tuck in behind the front man quite nicely.
 
Young is good, but you have to consider that Man Utd are chasing Barcelona at the moment, and players like Young will do nothing to close that gap

Exactly!! The only area of the pitch I can see Young improving us is his set piece play which is somewhat shocking at the moment.

I do buy into this he's better than Valencia stuff either but hey Tony V has a bad game against Barcelona ergo he's **** funny that same logic isn't applied to 98% of other players who have bad games against Barca

Disagree - Yes, Valencia was absolutely woeful in the CLF, but like for like, Young offers more, he's more creative, has better delivery both from set-plays and open play, is more clinical and generally a better player.
 
I think Young has more about him than Valencia, I just don't understand why Valencia gets so much praise. Maybe I don't watch him enough
 
you play Barca a couple of times a season, the area we need to improve quality is the centre of midfield not the wings or defense, Young is being bought to provide strength in depth and will do so very capably. It's not going to impact on our ability to bring in quality Cm's but it's bringing in the quality to help us over the course of a long season rather than solely focusing on Barca. We're not done in the market yet so it's no worry.

He'll be a good signing, provides cover for the wings and can also play in the centre if required. Nani, Valencia and Young will all get plenty of games next season.
 
And the sad thing from Villa's perspective is that with him only having one year left on his contract the fee (16-18m) is nothing near like his actual value based on the current market value of other players.
 
The thing is

15-20m for Young
16m for Jones
around 20m for De Gea.

How much are we going to spend? That doesn't seem to leave a lot for midfield purchases.

I hope you're right but I have my doubts, we've needed a top class centre midfielder for about 3 summers now and not addressed it. Everyone points to the fact that we'll sign someone this summer in that position to replace Scholes even though Scholes barely played from January onwards.
 
It will be a good signing for United if it goes through. 4 diffrent wingers... Something SAF likes

Just playing the odds, Scholes gone, Hargreaves gone (not in terms of games played but in terms of not waiting to see if he can regain fitness), an offer apparently accepted for Gibson and O'shea who could possibly play there at a push would lead me to believe, considering how Fergie likes strength in depth he'll be after CM's, we're just tying up the easier deals first, I imagine we're pursuing other options at the same time.
 
Looks like N'gog to Sunderland isn't as straight forward as first thought. It won't affect the Henderson deal if he doesn't go ahead though as they're independent to each other; that will go through as a straight £16m cash deal.

I meant JEvans, who I think could well end up being better than Smalling in the long run.

I don't rate Ashley Young as being better than Park at all, but then they're very different players. It's a hell of a lot easier to look like an amazing player in an average side - Park on the other hand is one of the first on the team sheet for all of the biggest matches in one of the biggest clubs in the world.

I don't give a **** about signing another (imo) overrated English player for over the odds, when what we need is a world class CMF who either offers something special going forward or has a hope in hell of containing the likes of the Barca midfield.

Oh right. I thought Shami was talking about O'Shea being able to play in lots of positions so when you quoted him, I assumed you were too.

Evan's looked a real prospect in his first proper run in the side (the 08/09 season?) but has gone down hill quickly since then. With the signing of Jones, I can't see him getting the chances to prove he's capable even if he is.
 
Twitter rife with Nasri to United rumours again and an Arsenal fan on SSN seems to think it's going to happen as well
 
Looks like the Yak is going to be signing for Leicester. Hopefully this means we will sign some one once we get that cash!
