Holy **** my motherboard just exploded!

Still waiting for msi to get back to me :(

It's likely to take longer than 2 hours.

Usually companies say they'll respond to e-mails within 24/48 hours.

From the MSI website:

Components RMA (if confirmed faulty)

MSI provide a 2 year warranty from date of purchase for components products. However, the responsibility to repair / replace your faulty component lies with your place of purchase. If they choose to only honour the 1st year, you can still claim on your warranty directly with MSI however you will be responsible for the logistics costs incurred. If you believe your component is faulty, please contact: [email protected], making sure to include the following information:

* Full Name
* Address
* Telephone number
* Email address
* Product's serial number
* Fault description
* Purchase invoice PDF/scanned copy

As you bought it second hand you don't know what the previous owner did to it.

They may have used some ridiculous voltages and now the board has had enough.

I hope MSI can help you but this sort of thing highlights the perils of buying second hand.

Stop talking rubbish. I have never had a board fail on me through overclocking. You don't even have to overclock to have them fail. It could be the result of a dodgy batch, the manufacturer cutting corners to cut costs or even a power surge.

Overclocking will stress VRM's more no matter which way you cut it though, as they will be passing more current and getting hotter compared to running stock voltages and speeds.

That said, I don't think overclocking caused this failure outright, but it could have caused it to happen sooner rather than later...

Look thru your old e-mails, you'll probably have a paypal reciept somewhere....

It was on a different email address :(

Just worked out, I can sell my 860 for 150 ish
Sell two monitors for 90ish each
3 nzxt 200 mm fans for a tenner each
Amounts to about 360 quid, I can then pickup an i7 2600 k and with a bit of saving a p67 ud4 :)
Is there any better sandybridge mobos for that price? Efi preferred, and would like black and blue colour scheme :)

MSI P67A-GD65 :D. Joking aside (Although MSI's P67 board are quality) the Asrock Z68 Extreme4 is worth a shout, it's also got a White, Blue and black colour scheme.

I had a Hipper psu which exploded & caught fire,it took out the mosfets, cpu, graphic card & Asus board.:mad:

You have nothing to loose to, trying to claim from MSI, just don't tell them you bought the board secondhand.

Been there, done it & got a replacement board from MSI a few years ago , when mosfets on a 775 board died.

Me again, back to our convocations :)

If you are only going to be gaming on it and nothing more demanding, you could get the i5 2500K. There isn't much differences between the two for gaming, only at low resolutions does the i7 out perform then i5 and it saves you some money.

Good shout! It was just that I saw the 2600k for 170 quid on b grade :)

I think that asrock extreme4 may be an idea, does it have an efi bios? And hopefully it will be better than the m3a770de and the m3a790gx I bought from them, one was terrible and one was DOA :(

I'm really struggling to not start crying or break down right now, everything has just gone wrong for me recently, and I can't afford a new PC... ****s sake! The motherboard is out of warranty as well...

If you haven't replaced it in about 2-3 months then let me know and you can have mine for free (motherbord) when i upgrade, though you'll likely have replaced it in that time. (asus P7P55D)

You sir are a true gentleman... However I am probably going to go sandy bridge now, as I can break even with it by selling stuff.

Thank you ever so much for the offer anyway, again, I cant thank you enough! :)

No problem :) I never really like selling motherboards so giving them away is my preferred option if someone desperately needs one (when they're not worth shed loads anyway, i'm not THAT generous haha :p)

Nice to see you have a plan anyway, i'll probably be getting a sandy bridge soon too.

Sweet :)
I'm probably getting the 2500k with the z68 extreme4, 308 quid, so I shall have some cash left over to put push pull on the rads :)

sorry to hear bout this mate! though it may look good for youafter you here this :P

i brought a coolermaster GX650 from a bootsale, yep, a bootsale, got home to try it, BANG! lol i wasnt too supprised when it blew up, but thats a bootsale for yah :P anyways, i thought i'd try RMA it seeing as its worth £60-£70 max? and i only paid a fiver for it so paying for postage overseas would still make it a good deal, so with little faith i registered the powersupply on their site and i came accross the box that asked you to enter when the PSU was sold to me, so i put it as one day before it blew :P (making it effectively 'a few days old') lol and they bought it! :D :D :D and even better i only had to send it to manchester! i had no clue when the psu was made or actually sold so i tried it on and it worked :P a few days later i got a brand spanking new GX650 all wrapped up smelling beautiful :P and when i sent it of i sent it in the box the guy gave me when i brought it, which was an OCZ stealth extreme 700W :D i was so supprised TBH lol :P
