Clichy, meh, he's not worked for years at Arsenal, partially a case of how Arsenal play, I can't tell how much is down to Clichy not being good enough or if its just Arsenal being pap.
I don't know, we've not had anyone upfront to actually cross to in years, so our crossing has gone to crap, because we don't really cross, the whole need to play overlapping fullbacks and getting good crosses in, isn't there.
Essentially Clichy's pace really doesn't offer us a whole heck of a lot going forwards because of the way we attack these days, wide guy who goes narrow, slow attacks, no overlap, no crossing. Would he get very good again in a side that actually utilises those attributes? Look at Baines with a couple people in the middle to cross to, Cashley when Drogba went off the boil and had Torres to cross too... didn't get much done.
He's probably wasted at Arsenal, but Wenger will see Gibbs as a replacement, who frankly I haven't seen a hint at being good enough defensively, and is one of the worse sicknotes in the team.
We're unlikely to attract someone better than Clichy for equal/less than we'd get for Clichy, so a bad deal all around. Losing Clichy for 5mil, and spending 10-15mil on someone as good as him, a "great" left back offensively will face the same problems as Clichy, a team simply not built for attacking fullbacks anymore.
If Arsenal get a real winger or two, and play 4-4-2 with a guy to cross too, then Clichy may be very very good for us.
I'm not sure I care anymore, anything Wenger does with the team will be wasted, any great player will be in a team thats not working. Arshavin, Kos, Squillaci, Chamakh, didn't make the slightest bit of difference, dropping Almunia for a seemingly far better keeper, again no difference. How many more bad buys will we make, who don't work, before we get rid of the guy in charge.
