I saw this girl that kinda reminded me of my ex but cuter 
, emailed her and she replied instantly. And the message was lovely to read, however i sent her one back and she hasn't been on POF for over two days now. You'd think if a message was sent they'd come online to check it

If she had read your message and not replied then fine... but if its still unread then it means noothing, and she could have been away for a couple of days or any number of valid reasons why she hasn't checked and responded. Seriously dude stop being so needy, girls will smell it a mile off.

Really how?, they will only smell it if i keep messaging them!. Nothing to do with being needy but anyway i just date differently, if someone sends me a message and i like them i'll reply asap or the day after!

What I mean is; If you start dating and she finds out that she looks very similar to your ex, they can get a little freaked out by it, as they see it as trying to replace your ex (like for like) or some crap like that...

Keep plowing away at it. The more messages you send the easier it becomes to write them.
Unless she isn't at a computer or was not near one, hence couldn't reply thus far? Or that she doesn't really give too much of a toss about some random guy on the interweb sending her a message enough to stop her life and rush to the PC to answer it so that said random man doesn't have a nervous breakdown from all the worry? Hilarious.
I don't have any problems composing messages, its just the amount of effort put into them is too much if i never get a reply. I'm living in the hope that one day someone who isn't twice my body weight messages me.

If the time investment isn't paying off then spend less time personalising the messages; you can rattle off a fairly witty generic message to a lot of girls which only mention a couple of things from their profile in no time at all.
Have one "cover all" message that you can use as a template, and make minor edits too depending on the person you're writing it to.

I always get a view on my profile after sending a mail, so the mail doesnt put them off nor do the photo's attached to it. My profile isnt so bad that it should put 100% of people off so think the fact i have 3 kids is making a big difference. I guess im just at the point now where i don't expect anything and just hoping someone does send me a message out of the blue. There aren't a huge amount of people in my area too which doesnt help.
Use the prefer not to say? Most women probably don't mind that you have kids, but faced between a single man with no kids, and a single man with kids, with everything else equal, they may just be stopping the replies. And once you have replies, you can use your charm to explain & be honest.
