EA Removes Recently Released Games from Steam

So far Origin is having a negative effect on me.

When I launch ME2 or DA2 via Origin the Steam launcher starts the game and i'm basically in steam not Origin. WTF is the point of that!!!

It has NO function.....

Oh yeah the shop...I'm not stupid EA, gamers want to shop about for the best deal so probably won't buy from the overpriced store ever.

However I can link my EA account, facebook,Xbox & PSN account.

Gotta think of those hackers huh, don't want them searching around for all that info when they can get it all in one place.

How exactly would you expect Origin to know that you've launched the game from Steam exactly? You've told Steam to launch The games directly from their exes I presume?

Quite frankly, I don't want ANY software, from EA or not, constantly scanning my processes.

Did it pick up on games you had previously installed on Steam when you registered them to your account?

It picked up my ME2 install but still asked me for a disk when I went to launch it, I can only presume I'll have to download it through Origin for it to work properly.

I brought all my games through steam intially.

Basically I had 2 EA accounts and wanted to merge them. Spoke to their Tech guys and they merge the two accounts and gave me new keys for DA2 & ME2. I registered those new keys on Bioware's site.

Logged into origin and DA2 & ME2 were there, clicked ME 2 and it launches it through steam. All working fine but so messy.

So yeah, those 2 games are still sitting in my \steamapps\ folder and running fine, didn't have to re-download them

maybe no more steam updates could be why

auto updating is great, but steam also had delays with certain patches for CoD which meant you couldn't join servers your mates were on that had manually updated their retail copies. Having not bought any CoD games since WaW I don't know if thats a problem these days.

I just find it annoying, I like all my stuff to be done through one medium. Its why I dont have Chrome, Firefox and Opera all installed at once, or MS Office, Open Office and Lotus all installed. I just prefer things to be streamlined. Dont like clutter, even if its virtual clutter ;)

chaos=good :p

Ack forgot about ME3, if its not on steam I won't be buying it and I'll definitely be missing that one :(

Just wait til you need different clients for valve, EA, Activision, Codemasters, Microsoft, etc. etc. and they all want to start with your PC and need to be running to play the different games...

but I only play one game at a time so only one of the clients needs to be open.

It seems the crux of the problem is from the bigotry towards all things EA do, each to their own I say!

I think its good for steam to have competition, but this wont be any competition at all. It will probably be the same as GFWL, bad and worthless and an annoyance.

And what of your steam friends list? What good is that to you when you're on Origin? Or do you have to add everyone onto Origin too? Oh but then nobody will have it open because Steam is simply better, they'll only launch Origin when they need to.

So no, you don't 'only need 1 client open'.

But its not competition is it. EA will never have anyone elses games on there and if they're removing their own games from other digital distributors then they're still controlling the price of their game. Nothing changes except making things that little more awkward for everyone else.

Ea can go F themselves sideways. Steam is the only client for me. Dont make your games available on steam or at the least without forcing your crappy origin. Then no purchase from me.

This isn't going to be competition though, I doubt EA are going to be the only publishing house to pull a stunt like this, this is going to be a major fracturing of the game distribution services. A different client for each of the different publishers is not my idea of fun.

Nothing changes except making things that little more awkward for THE PAYING CUSTOMER.

One of the good things about Origin is that you don't actually need to load it at all to play some games once you've got them installed. I've recently been playing Shift 2 and Mass Effect 2, both of which I can launch directly. So in that sense, Origin is arguably LESS bloated than Steam.

The one year thing is something I was aware of (and think sucks) but fortunately I've never fallen foul of it myself (touch wood), as I always keep the installers.

I remember the good old days but then i started to get annoyed at having to have a silly login and password to play online for more and more games, now it seems they want more than that, total control while squeezing every penny possible through over priced dlc etc, it just gets to the point where its not worth it, the companys behind gaming have become pathetic greedy control freaks.

Ea accounts is so borked i can't play paradise city online as it reckons i don't own it and after hours of dicking around i gave up with it, is this related to thier new deal with gog?

Posted below is EA's statement sent to IGN:

It's unfortunate that Steam has removed Crysis 2 from their service. This was not an EA decision or the result of any action by EA.

Steam has imposed a set of business terms for developers hoping to sell content on that service – many of which are not imposed by other online game services. Unfortunately, Crytek has an agreement with another download service which violates the new rules from Steam and resulted in its expulsion of Crysis 2 from Steam.

Crysis 2 continues to be available on several other download services including Origin.com.

IGN has contacted Valve for comment.

It's sad really, these companys make hundreds of millions, even billions on their gaming franchises, yet its never enough, i mean whats wrong with giving people value for their money and some choice in how it's used, while making a reasonable profit?
