****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Oooohhhh you're absolutely right, I must have added them as widgets initially and didn't realise, cheers! :)

Hehe, no worries. I spent a while trying to figure out the issue as well before I noticed that shortcuts didn't even have the option of labels whereas the widget did. I was trying to work out the opposite thought, as I didn't want the labels :)

what pees me off is they keep coming out with these updates and no info as what it address's

These aren't update in the normal sense, they're just releases for networks in other countries by the looks of it. Nothing major, just regional releases.

Im over in denmark, still only have ke2 here on telia unbranded & unlocked phone. are the updates significant enough to warrent looking elsewhere to update?

Thanks, matt

Just rooted my phone, that was very much easier than I had thought!

Anyway Cifsmanager still doesnt work, looks like there is some other file I need to get or something. Tried one but still says cannot find device when I try to mount a drive.

I got titanium pro to freeze some apps.

Any other must have apps once rooted? I know about wifi tether, titanium, quick boot, ad free and rom manager, any others?

Also is there a way to backup your ROM and then move that backup off the phone? I made a backup and its about 800mb, a bit too much for something that I will almost definitely never use (unless I install a custom ROM or delete a critical app by mistake which Im not going to try any time soon).

What happened?

Can't put it down to one action atm but I think it's a mixture of a memory mounting glitch / trying to move to villain's rom. I noticed when trying to send over the zip for the new rom that it seems to do it pretty quickly then unmounted itself from my PC, I didn't think much of it until I went to flash and it got itself stuck in a bootloop.

Tried to recover it by going back to stock but the bootloader was the only thing that would flash successfully. Odin would fail at factoryfs.img and the memory mounting issue happened when I used CWM's bootloader to mount as usb storage so that's all I can put it down to.

I've had it about 3 weeks which is out of the exchange limit for vodafone direct, luckily I work for them at the moment so it might just have to go down as an exception...

question rooters?

if i rooted using the " [GUIDE] And then there was ROOT !" thread on xda, does it flash a new image on like the old way on the desire? meaning you lose all data and start again on a fresh rom with root.

or does it just add the superuser and other apps to it and that's it?

At the top of that guide in red writing it says to use this instead:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399

Did it yesterday, very easy and does not delete any data or apps - it just roots the device and adds some apps like superuser.

Mysterious data usage update:

Someone had told me if you switch "use packet data" off that it wont be using 3g etc, and therefore, "cell usage" (data) should not rise.

Yesterday I clocked on when my apparent cell usage was being imitated..... The second I left the house it would connect to H and start uploading data (Dont trust google considering)

If you hold the power button down and choose "data network mode - deactivated" this would seem to terminate the connection more so than any other phone option.

What's weird.... is why is it every time I leave the house Google see's the need for my phone to transmit 30MB worth of data! I'd like to know what Data it is they are uploading too! Is this like the street view thing when they stole info from people's routers??!! Strange if you ask me.

Rant over :)

Factory reset it, then slowly install apps/change settings until you find the problem. It shouldn't do that and I doubt that it's Google doing it.

I doubt its an app if I'm honest. Ashamed to say it... But I dont have that many apps yet :/

Once 2.3.4 is out I'll be flashing with that so will obviously test again though this has happened since day 1 for me.

Only things I've installed so far..

Talking Tom Cat
Sky+
NatGeoTV
Zedge
Zombiebooth
Real Football 2011
GangstarMV
Traffic Counter
BatteryCalibration
Modern Combat 2
Lookout
Quadrant
Volume Control +
Angry Birds
SetCPU
FPse
Multitouch tester

Bugger all compared to the rest of you who have 300+ apps lol.
