The *Official* Eve Online Thread

Buffer laser legion can spare slots for tracking and make mincemeat of those pesky cynabals/vagas - about the only reason I can think for using one tho :D

What's the fitting on the oversized AB/HAM Legion? Saw a video on YouTube and it looked pretty sweet. Not that it's useful to me since I have like 500k in Missiles.

Probably fairly similiar to the oversized tengu fits, bit of nano, x-type 100MN AB, do about 2km/s and small sig. They do need a bit of thinking ahead to fly one tho as they lack the agility of a correct sized prop mod.

Yeah properly fit they are not cheap, I flew a ~4.5bn (including implants) oversized AB tengu setup for awhile but chickened out as I'm not that good a pilot - in the right hands they are monsters:

Another noob questions here if you don't mind.

Got the hang of the game basics pretty much now, skills progressions going nicely etc, but I'm a bit lost on where to go with ship fitting.

I have a Thrasher and a Rifter that I'm playing around with and I'm not really sure what to fit them with. Currently still using the 125mm autocannon 1's. Any good builds people can recommend? Appreciate this might be difficult without knowing my skillset but atleast I have something to aim for.

Medium Shield (not the totally basic one but I'm not able to access Eve atm) I put on my Destroyer reeeeally drains my power, I'm trying to get my energy management skills etc up to componsate but advice appreciated.

Do not worry about fits yet to be honest. Certificates are a good gauge of what you need in general (sometimes they're ludicrous though).

I would say aim for T2 small weapons (which is 4 I think) and T2 shields which usually level 4 as well, depending. What will you be doing mainly in the next 3 months? PvP or PvE? If PvE, T2 stuff isn't a necessity but speeds things up vastly, for PvP, it's different story all together really and sometimes it's all about just GTFO of there when you see someone.

General skills you should get to 4 are: -

  • Energy Management
  • Electronics
  • Shields
  • Mechanic
  • Warp Drive Operation
  • Afterburner
  • Navigation

There are others which will help but this is all off the top of my head right now.

Thanks for the advice guys.

LeJosh, mainly PVE for the next 3 months I guess, maybe start playing around with PVP sometime after that, my thought process was that PVE would ease me into the game a little easier and be rather more forgiving.

Luckily I have been putting a fair amount of focus into the skills recommended so It seems im headed in the right direction.

I have been using the certificate guides for building up with the Thrasher but some things like the targeting (which lets you get more locks) seems a bit silly at the mo, to the level advised on the certs anyway, can't see the need to target more than the 4 I can do at the mo, espcially when there are so many other skills I could be focusing on.

Will take on board Vader's comments too, a long range artillary build with my Thrasher is something that very much appeals!

Arty build is win for mega-distances but if they come close to you fast enough, good luck with that.

PvE will get you used to the U.I. and mechanics in general but I don't feel that I will assist in PvP at all. PvP is a whole other ball park in EvE, just know your ships generally, if it's bigger run, if it's a T1 frig that you may be able to take on. Do so at your own risk.

And you're right certs do have some silly suggestions but they take into account that you may be playing for a long time usually.

Find a set a of people who like to do roams (perhaps OcUK bunch?) so you get a general taste of everything.

No. 1 rule - only fly what you're willing to lose. :p
No. 2 rule - No where is safe.

I'm sure its on numerous pages across this thread, however, is there an OCUK corp open to people here?

Although I've got a mate thinking of re-subing and apparently he played this a few years ago and maybe powerful enough to show me some bits and bobs / give me a helping hand. Seeing him later so will hopefully get some hands on pointers there too.

There is an OcUK named corp. (edit)

However, join the OcUK channel as there is usually a couple guys on willing to talk, as well as myself.

My IGN is Aralello.

Prot has a solid tank and nice dps in cloaky configuration (tho needs to get right on top of the target which is a bit of down side).

Is there actually a cloaky legion fit worth anything? from a quick look just now it seemed you ended up with silly resists* whatever configuration you went for that would make it entirely useless due to poor tank even tho it had ok dps.

* i.e. kin and explosive were like over 90% but you couldn't even take a cane on as the emp and thermal resists were rubbish - and really hard to armor tank in cloaky config.

EDIT: Or you could go with a massive armor tank but absolutely no dps :(

Fit energy parasitic sub, tank it up = cloaky neuty tackler. And yes, 6 lowslots, a decent powergrid, and 3 rig slots makes it difficult to fit an armour tank

I'm gonna be returning soon I think, need to find a PVP/Pirate corp, any suggestions?

Probably going to have to grind my sec status back to a 0.0 which takes ages :@

Yeah it tanks up fine in that config, its hard to make a classic cloaky tackler fit that has a reasonable amount of dps and tank tho.

I'm going to fly an Arbitrator, I love drones and I can use Hammer 2s and Hob 2s.

I'll get minmatar specialisation if I need faster drones for faster boats.

All neuts on highs, warb scrambler/weapon distruptor/cap battery in mids and 2 nano membrane in lows with either a 1600mm tungsten or 800mm depending how I feel. :p
