****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Hardly need to read through that many pages ;)

It can be as simple as this:

Flash CF Root (Root, Busybox, and ClockWorkMod (CWM3) recovery) with ODIN
Backup apps/settings
Download ROM of your choice to your phone
Open CWM app on the phone itself, and flash the update
Restore apps/settings

Ok I looked at the thread for that & I understand it all. Up till the point where I'm meant to select which kernel to download.

Mine at the moment is I9100XWKE1, Baseband is I9100NEKD5.

Which one would I select on that guide? Cause I can't see any reference to my kernel. God knows how you search within a thread on XDA either.

Many thanks!

Thanks Khaan, i appreciate the help

i do only have one calendar (which i would like to keep, its just appointments)

just noticed it isnt the calendar name that is on the phone

will keep fiddling

ps. is there any way to make the font size smaller in the contacts list?

edit:

ok i made another test callendar online and that syncs perfectly to my phone, but not to my computer,

the existing calendar syncs to my computer but not to my phone

..hmmmmmm

Sure you can. Flash insecure kernel (KDD will do), then root with superoneclick (or push manually with adb), then put stock KE1 kernel back.

Many thanks!

On the superoneclick thread there are two versions 1.7 & 1.9.5. Which one would you recommend? The 1.9.5 has a driver .rar under it also will I be needing this?

Sorry for being such a noob!

Had the GS2 for a while now and loving every second of it!

Got one small niggle though! When i go into some apps i get the following message -

"You set to use wifi network only, but wifi is not connected!".

Anyone had this before? How can i turn it off?

Checked everywhere and can't find the setting.

Just been onto renewals & ordered one, only problem is they are out of stock with none due in until next month :(

But as I'm on a half price tarriff & the phone is £10 ... I won't complain too much :D

sorry for the noob questions, i know they probablly been asked a million times already

but how can i change the size of the fonts in contacts?

i don't think you can, its more to do with making the picture size smaller, any smaller and it would be a mess of colours, so making the font smaller would not make any difference on the amount you could see on the page. (i have been known to be wrong before)

you can change the msg font size, as posted by robbo? that is well worth changing from normal to small.

cheers Locke - I think I have the gist of it - although I'll be asking a few questions like what actualy is a kernal, Busybox, and ClockWorkMod?

I'll have a readup myself but if you could give a brief description it would help. cheers.

I hate being brief :p

ClockWorkMod is a custom recovery image which is what you will need later to backup and restore your phone.

The recovery image is a special program much like the BIOS on your PC (i.e you can boot to it without starting up Android).

Normal recovery on most Android phones only gives you a few basic options, mainly related to wiping the phone because manufacturers and Google don't want you to screw up the phone etc. However, custom recovery images such as ClockWorkMod (there are others, but this is the main one for the SII atm) also include some other scripts and options that can do cool things like flashing custom ROM’s, which the normal recovery system can't allow. Once you flash it, look up the other options, like fix your file permissions to see what I mean.

This is busybox - most ROM developers like to have it preinstalled for convenience, much like SuperUser.

A kernel is like the core of the operating system, it basically manages the system resources and controls the interaction between software and hardware. All sorts of stuff can be changed like voltages. So custom kernels can be highly beneficial and also dangerous.

So yeah, simples :p
