An Independent Scotland?

why would you be allowed to use the GBP? you would have to use your own money or the euro.
how come all the pro scottish independant people think they will start with a nice clean slate and all of the perks they currently get from beeing members of the UK.
want to keep the GBP currency
dont want any share of the debt.
expect the UK military to protect them.
think all the oil in the north sea will be theres.
etc

Oh god, shoosh.

I haven't said any of that and I'm not even pro independence as of yet.

someone else wanted it in the other scotish thread probably biohazard but a lot of others seem to think its a god given right to keep all of those things.

there is no way the scottish pound will be pegged to the GBP like it currently is if you go independant

Except it would not be a complete dissolution of the union. Wales and Northern Ireland are still part of it. It is Scotland wanting to leave. If England wanted to leave the union then sure we couldn't use the GBP. But that isn't the case here.

wow, making outrageous, false and frankly stupid comments is easy!

Well that's just not true. The Union is a collection of willing countries. Any country that left would result in the dissolution of that Union. A new one would have to be devised.

This isn't true. When Ireland gained Independence, they continued to use Sterling until 1978.

If England wanted to leave the union then sure we couldn't use the GBP. But that isn't the case here.
Why? People need to learn a little about currency. Pount Sterling, GBP, is the official currency of several places, including the home nations. Leaving the Union does not mean that the country de-links its currency; unless it chooses to do so.

all this rubbish is going to do is make bad feeling on both sides of the border anyway and we all know your politicians dont really want independance they want a bargaining chip.

eventually you will probably get independance when enough people on both sides hate each other enough

This, my friends is arknor realizing that he's lost the argument. Thank you for playing, same time and place in 3 weeks?

Scotland wants it's independance so I say let them have it. I believe England does pump a lot of money into Scotland so it would be a good thing for England to save the pennies.
If Scotland wants Scotland for themselves that is.

no it doesn't!! will be a vote on it in next 4 years... i seriously doubt it will go through. if it did i would move straight out the country as scotland would be screwed. As not only would we be out of Britain we would be out the EU to and have to wait 4 years to apply to be back in the EU

Because the EU has done a lot of good for us.
I'd say the EU has been on the whole good to us, but like many things it has good points and bad points.

The Euro however..if Scotland do go independent, I hope the SNP has the sense not to join that :p.

no just dont see the point of arguing with people who arent willing to change their opinion or listen to common sense.

why would the remaining UK members want to risk an independant scotland devaluing the UK's currency

Indeed. But the cons are strikingly bad sometimes.

No, god, not the Euro. :(

Although it is gaining strength in the world market daily but it hassn't reached 1 to 1 with GBP - yet.

What exactly are you referring to?

You haven't made any solid, verifiable points. Your posts are all about speculation both about the subject matter and also about the people you are in discussion with.

It's going to go to the wall soon, and if it does manage to survive it's hard to imagine the damage to the countries left in it.

I would have thought it obvious. If Scotland, or another "home nation" leaves the Union, the Union would not be dissolved.

The Union would cease to exist as it is now. Yes a new one would be formed instantaneously but what I said still stands true. I fear this is a argument about semantics.

how would a new one be formed instantaneously? thats like saying the EU is a brand new one everytime a member joins..

or my place of work is a brand new one everytime a new member of staff is hired
