European Grand Prix 2011, Valencia Street Circuit - Race 8/19

I think RBR are still running quite an aggressive map. With the unknown engine factor it will be hard to tell unless they both self destruct.

Wow I agree with EJ for once. Button needs to sort out qualifying and it may well be balance. But then that's down to you talking to the engineers and fine tuning the setup.

I agree, am a huge fan of JB, but he needs to sort his qualifying out.

I highly doubt they would risk it. With only having 8 for the whole season they would be taking a big risk that at some point they have to take a grid place hit. The teams and engine techs know exactly when these things are due to die. I seem to remember last year Alonso popping one and then we heard that it was due to be shelved after just 2 more laps. They already squeeze the engines to get them as close to failing as possible.

On Quali, interesting to see the RBR is still faster even with the race map. Obviously we still don't know if that is down to McLaren running more wing, the RB still having a DRS perfect for Quali, etc.

herp a derp, FIA tried to stop RB and failed derp. N00b0rs1!111!1one

OK. So, in that case, there is still more to come and we may yet see RBR go backwards.

In any case, it is quite possible that once again, the RBR car may not be the fastest race car. We just have to wait and see.

All the top teams were using the Q3 map, which is why things didn't really change.

Are you suggesting they either run the Q3 map until they can plug a lappy in during the race or that they are all ignoring the rules?

Where did you get that info? They won't be able to change it until the first stop so it seems a bit of a risk and I can't see them changing it with a laptop in the first stop.

Are you sure?

I think you've misunderstood.

He was saying the pecking order didn't change as they'd all been using such maps previously, not just RBR.

Some were expecting to see RBR struggling today after the map ruling. Nothing changed as it wasn't something RBR did uniquely, all the top teams were at it, so whatever disadvantage it dealt to RBR, it did equally so to McLaren, Ferrari etc.

Not that they all continued to run a different map and are planning on remapping in the pitstops :p

Thats what I meant :) I think we could assume that would include the top 5 teams? So basically the ones which would gain would be those on the borderline of getting into Q3.

Just like all the top teams are using EBD, little will change. The teams with the best EBD will still get the most amount of downforce from the 10% off throttle compared to the 15% or so it is now.

While this is true, the downforce garnered from the EBD will be a lower overall percentage of total downforce generated compared to now. So if RBR were getting say 20% of their downforce from the EBD now they maybe only get 7%. McLaren or Ferrari maybe only get 15% at the moment and it drops to say 5%. Now the downforce delta is 2% instead of 5%. Thats a much smaller margin and one that can be more easily made up with setup tweaks and good/lucky upgrades.

We won't know at all until Silverstone just what effect its going to have but regardless its going to be very interesting finding out!

Sure I read Renault (I think) were using 40% or something! Have to try and find it.

I believe that Renault were the biggest users of the blown exhaust gases.
Their performance should drop in Silverstone.
