****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Things aren't as impressive when you plug-in a pair of headphones. Stereo crosstalk, which increases rapidly, volume levels decrease and intermodulation distortion starts creeping in. The general result is still decent, but we've certainly seen better here.

Ah yeah. Typical Hifi reviewer speak (I accept no bribes - honestly) for politely saying "it sounds rubbish"

Mod Edit - please fully star out swearies

I don't have a single phone here that sounds any better than it, the iPhone 4 has been slated a lot for having poor audio playback.

Maybe you are just expecting too much? If you're worried about it, I'm sure you can improve it with some of the apps and tweaks available.

Yeah maybe you're right. It's been a long day what with one thing and another

One thing I've learned over the years when it comes to subjective listening is that you really have to be in the mood.

in the upper echelons of the IEM world, the iphone4 is pretty capable. it's only ever people using cheap IEM's and expecting to be able to use stacks of EQ that dont get on with them. Leave the eq's alone and the iphone4 makes a great source and a great player when using some sensitive top end IEMs. fiddle with the eq and you're probably better of with something else.

I have just joined the Samsung GS2 Club.

Any 'real' advantages in changing the rom straight away?

Well, depends whatever advantages that particular ROM has, which should be in the thread description on XDA. At the very least, rooting is pretty much a necessity to really unlock the phones potential.

yeah i would root at some stage, but just get used to it for a while.

the main reason i rooted was to use titanium backup, to remove all the samsung crud i don't want, but that's my choice, others may like the features, you have the fastest phone on the market out the box, enjoy for a while and read up some of the guides on XDA before diving in.

What would be the point!

I can only imagine it will replace the existing GS2 and they will just sell the 1.4Ghz version in place of the 1.2Ghz at the same price. I suppose the point would be because they can and it won't cost anything for them to do really.

Would be a bonus if they brought out new firmware to increase existing GS2's up to 1.4 also.
