****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

I have just joined the Samsung GS2 Club.

Any 'real' advantages in changing the rom straight away?

I wouldn't straight away, I would make sure ur happy with it first, and there's no problems just incase, and if you get used to the stock way of doing things for a while, then the changes from customisation are more apparent, ie speed increases in a custom rom will be more noticeable.

Are there any fixes to the focusing in videos? When the focus is right, the quality is incredible, but it hunts a lot for no apparant reason and takes forever once it starts. KE7 here

This has dropped to £430 sim free now. Wonder if that was a cut initiated by Samsung themselves and if contract prices will also drop...

looking at the video taken on the S2 here the videos of the cars driving past, the cars seem to stutter a bit... perhaps I am just being picky!

Well when i record full 1080p on my SGS2 it plays really smooth on the phone and PC but when it gets uploaded to you tube it becomes choppy.

I Blame robbo for my S2 arriving tommorow :p

eeeek - how many posts to go through here! - I was keeping track of the sensation thread not this one!. Anyone care to summarise any decent info for us who don't want to go wading through 250+ pages of this thread!!!!

i.e. recommended firmware? root method? (if more than one).
Worth using Class 10 SD cards?

etc. thanks in advance

Few things off the top of my head (think others will have more/better)

Get widgetlocker off the market to replace the dire Samsung lock screen (one bit of the stock software that is, imo, unusable)

Rooting the best method is the CF-Root kernels, as per:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399

I'm on the stock KE7 firmware + CF-Root KE7 kernel for the time being, not seen any massive reason to update yet, probably will when CM7 is out for it :)

The thread has a search function you can use to make things easier. :)

forgive richdog, he's not very helpful ;)

mate all you need is in this sub section of XDA

http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1055

under Galaxy S II Android Development section you will find a few root guides and info on firmware.

as for SD cards, im sure you already know higher the class is better, Lexar have a class 10 for around £45 which seems quite good, the sandisk ones also got good reviews, think it was class 6, watch where u buy from and avoid ebay, so many fakes around.

there are a few useful posts in this thread, but a lot of waffle too, mainly about how long batteries last :D

LOL - helps when one knows exactly what it is their searching for in order to use that functionality - Cheeky git :p

My list is currently being compiled as follows to spruce up touchwiz 4:

Go Contacts,
LauncherPro with Sense widget pack (which i already have)
Widgetlocker

all I need now is a decent email client as I can't stand the stock android one - if thats what the SGSII uses....

oo - and a decent tool to use me flash as a light

thanks guys.

I wasn't being cheeky at all it was genuine advice... search the thread for "root" and you will find the guides and posts that people made telling others how to do it. It's that simple. :)

Yes, I know how to search for keywords but Root wasn't the only thing I asked for dude. Thanks to Jimlad for being helpful.

Thanks guys,

I am coming from a HTC HD2 (Cracked the screen before you ask) which I changed to an Android ROM so I am pretty familier with the android side of things + routing.

I'll give it a week or so and judge the performance, let me get some apps on there and let's see how fast it really is.

Mike
