Electric vs blade shaving - some help please

Used to use an electric shaver all the time, was a 3 blade rotating philips thing. Wernt until i went away for a while that i had to wet shave, i then noticed how much closer a wet shave gets and not looked back since. Been using the fusion since it came out.

When I first started shaving I had an electric and it gave me some horrendous razor burn. After a few years I decided to grab a disposable of some description which gave me less of a rash but still wasn't close.

Recently I've gone old skool and started using a straight razor, it was an expensive experiment (razor + strop) and at first I ended up giving myself some pretty nasty cuts (someone at work actually asked if I'd got attacked on the way home), but the shave I get now after 3 passes a few months down the line is as smooth as a waxed ;) They take a bit of maintenance, stropping every day and stropping on a pasted strop every few weeks, but is head and shoulders above modern razors. I've heard a DE is almost as good but with the added advantage of not risking killing yourself when hungover :p

What is the difference between all the models of Merkurs available on that website?.

from what i've picked up when looking, some of the differences relate to weight of the razor (they don't weigh much as it is but some definately felt lighter to hold than others), general size of the handle, some have long/short wide/narrow handles, if you have big hands holding the smaller ones can be awkward, other than that just the style/colour of the razor.

where's the best place to get a merkur from and which one should i go for? Im not paying £20 for 5 blades anymore gillette!

I got mine from here: http://www.gentlemans-shop.com/acatalog/merkur-34-razor.html

Plus: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Derby-Stainless-Double-Safety-Blades/dp/B0031BDGKQ

The Derby blades are not as sharp as the Merkur ones, but less chance of cutting yourself and still provide a better shave than the Gillette ones. Also <1p per blade!

Going to try these ones next: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Feather-Hi-...1_1?s=drugstore&ie=UTF8&qid=1309341951&sr=1-1

Electric shaver. I use a panasonic only payed £50 for it. You can get it as close as you want - all you have todo is apply more pressure. But be careful first time I used it I pressed down like I would when using a normal blade and it cut the hairs underneath my skin so the next few days I was in pain as half my face the hairs were growing back out of my face and giving me tiny spots. Now i'm used to it - it's quick, painless and convinient. I find electric shavers work better dry because if you do it wet the hairs stick to your face so don't go into the grill of the shaver.

Added advantage (or disadvantage) of a blade is that it exfoliates a layer of your skin leaving a fresh new softer layer! I'll use a blade now and then for that reason only. I'm not into all these merkurs etc as I lead a busy life so don't want to spend ages shaving with the risk of cuts.

I've never got on with electric razors after trying a few different ones.

me neither they seem to be for people who shave pretty much every day ... rather just use a pair of hair clippers without the guard doesnt matter how much facial hair you have it will properly cut them rather than feel like its ripping them out

World´s Most Expensive Razor Costs $100,000

Zafiro Iridium´s limited edition razor is the most expensive razor on earth. It costs $100,000 and is made of 99.9 percent iridium.

Zafiro gained experience in rocket engine building and nanotechnology and now uses this knowledge for the razor production. Only 99 of these limited razors will be sold. The screws used are of platinum and the handle of the very rare metal iridium.

The two blades of the razor consist of white sapphire and are sharper than any other razor blades. They should stay sharp for one year and the manufacturer offers resharpening and cleaning for 10 years.

I'll stick with my Merkur thanks

I use an electric panasonic which can be used to wet shave with.... It is very, very good when wet shaving, and "acceptable" if not.

I have this shaver which is alright, it's actually quite good because it does the longer hairs too. My girlfriend complains that it's not completely smooth though.

The problem I have is the skin on my chin and neck is very sensitive :( Is there anything I can do to help this?

A month or two ago I bought a razor (can't remember which) and my neck was burning for 2-3 days after :(
