Steam Summer Sale 2011

Managed to buy absolutely nothing so far, after my failed attempt at trying to buy AvP. Think I may get FO:NV and the DLC though...

I quite enjoy the BFBC2 multiplayer. The single player game (Especially the first few missions which suck), isn't that great. I'd still play it anyway though lol.

Need to calm it down now, have bought the Valve pack (cant believe i havent played portal/2 before, its awsome!), Dwarfs!, Gratuitous Space Battles pack, BFBC2 pack and Recettear, tempted by Singularity too for a fiver.....

I am looking at getting Guild Wars as a casual MMORPG without the subscription and was wondering if it was still popular and what would be the better option the GOTY edition or the Trilogy.

GotY is just the first game (Prophecies).
Trilogy is Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall but you also need to get Eye of the North separately (why they don't release them together is a mystery).

Depends what you want from it really, if you're hoping to jump on now and then and play through with some random people you might not get very far. If you don't mind jumping on and playing through some missions/quests yourself, then you'll get many, MANY hours of fun from it.

People do still play it but I think most of them only play end-game content like elite missions and hard mode. No idea how many people are doing new characters and such but I imagine most of the 'out of the way' areas are fairly uninhabited and you probably wouldn't be able to get people to join you for random quests.

Community isn't much different from any other MMO really. Some people/guilds will lend a hand if you're new. Some people have a stick up there arse and won't do anything unless you run a certain build.

I'd definitely go for the Trilogy if you were going to get it. If you're sure you'll enjoy it then pick up Eye of the North too. If you're really hesitant about spending money on it now I would go for the GotY but it'll work out more expensive overall doing it that way.
Tbh theres no reason you shouldn't like it unless you're looking for a huge social experience but there are still active guilds/alliances around that you can join and other people in the GW thread might be able to point you in the right direction.

Bought BFBC2 as part of my long list, but can't really get into it.

Aw I'm finding it really good.. Have a few steam friends who play and are awesome at it so that helps, we went 7 squad deathmatchs in a row unbeaten yesterday it was carnage! :D

Dungeon Keeper 2 would be an instant buy from me on GOG. I have installed the 2nd one many a time and always run into problems about 50% into the game. Or to play the game stable I cannot raise the resolution above 800x600.

Yup even when the game actually released it was buggy as hell.. they never really sorted it out before EA forced bullfrog to pull support for it..

What suprises me is we've not seen a proper remake of the series... EA obviously don't care for doing it themselves (letting GOG go near it)

The closest thing we've got so far was Dungeons, and what a bloody right farce that turned out to be :P

But yea... generally speaking I play a mixed bag of games... but when I find myself looking more forward to what 10 year old reboots GOG has done this week rather than whats new on steam it sums up how I feel about the lack of innovation by developers

Thats the difference between the 90's and now, back then you could be innovative and put out different sorts of game.. these days the developers get shacked to re-skin a top seller for a easy buck

Maybe others will realize the same after COD 10 voyage to mars lol

I do wonder if steam will ever get classics. Id love to have freelancer, iwar, homeworld, freespace 1+2 etc on my steam account. Id def still play those games!

There may be hope as I've already sighted nexus jupiter incident (after looking through captain raves wishlist)

I would no problem but, as I'm sure you know, it would be at the more expensive Euro rates.

You deserve to be helped out though after all the help you've provided to myself and others on here.
